Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) on Monday became the second senator to call for a cease-fire in Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas militants.
“I am calling for a ceasefire — a cessation of hostilities by both sides,” Merkley posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “To endure, the ceasefire and the following negotiations must accomplish other essential objectives, including the release of all hostages and a massive influx of humanitarian aid.”
Merkley’s call comes after Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, became the first senator to back a stop in the fighting earlier this month in an interview on CNN.

So.... there WAS a cease fire.
Agreed to by both Hamas and Israel
Hamas broke that agreement by attacking
I agree with the concept of a cease fire but it needs to be a REAL cease fire, not just a time out for one side to lick its wounds and resupply.
So.... what is going to be different about this ceasefire?
The stupid is strong in this one.
From a state that just nullified High School graduation requirements. Can’t imagine what that does to a rational student in terms of motivation.
So, wanting israel to wipe their enemies from the face of the earth is stupid? Those calling for cease fire are no friends of israel who has had to endure centuries of abuse and attempts to wipe them from the face of the map. Those advocating for ceasefire are advocating for hamas to regroup, rebuild, and reattack israel at a later date.
If it is stupid to want Israel to put a stop once and for all to the group hamas who will never stop attacking isrzel no matter what- then fine- I’m happy to be stupid for Israel’s sake. It is high time hamas be taught that they do not have free reign to attack anytime they wish, and then run to the un crying about how unfair the response is! The idiots calling for peace and ceasefires never said a word when the us went after her enemies and reduced them to ashes! Yet they demand israel cease doing ehat they need to do to eradicate a vile terrorist group as much as possible are not infaxt one bit concerned about the welfare of israel. Let israel f8nish the job and decide for themselves when enough is enough!
Whoa, boy, whoa. I was referring to Senator Jeff Merkley as the one with the terminal case of stupid. I personally am 100% in favor of Israel wiping out Hamas root, stock, and barrel. And the palescumians, who NO NATION wants, are just oxygen wasting biomass, fully supporting Hamas. They voted them in for their government and the vast majority of them support murdering Israelis. Palescumian brood sows look proudly upon their kids as they strap on suicide vests, thinking of the pension that will bring their family. Palescumian school textbooks feature Jew-hate on every page. The state product of Gaza is hate and murder. So, who needs 'em?
ok i misubnderstood- sorry-
Why not call for Hamas to disarm?
Except Jewish people aren’t supposed to touch bacon.
Tough to fit on a business card.
“Except Jewish people aren’t supposed to touch bacon.”
So wear gloves or let a Gentile handle it ...
The Palestinian son of a Hamas co-founder — who later converted to Christianity — warned the world that if Israel does not succeed in eliminating Hamas “all of us will be next.”
[...]
“If Hamas is not defeated, if Hamas is not eradicated in Gaza, we will set the model, we will give the freedom to so many radical groups around the world,” he warned. “And this is just a warning. If you really care for the global security — and I speak of a person who was part of the counter-terrorism effort against radical Islamists — if Hamas is not defeated in Gaza, it will inspire many groups around the globe. They will see that a few thousands of savages can blackmail the international community, the super powers and bring democracies to their knees. Many of them are watching now and many of them are very happy about how the world is responding. And many of them are satisfied to see the state of confusion and fear and anxiety.”
“This is the time to get united,” he asserted. “Because if Israel fails in Gaza, all of us will be next.”
