The Russians have always been aggressors, since the Rus brothers first arrived and folks like Peter the Great turned Russia into a modern invasion force to be reckoned with (ask the Crimean Tatars). Since then, the Russians kept spreading out and subjugating for centuries.
Don’t try to kid people who’ve actually worked with the Russians. They are usually open, friendly, outgoing likeable people who will kill you now -and enjoy it - if they feel they should. Ask Major Nicholson, who was shot without warning by a Russian guard and then allowed to bleed to death because the same Russians prevented any medical assistance - or shot down a fully occupied Korean airliner without warning when they made a navigation error.
They were diehard subverting, spying communists when they felt like it and they’re subverting, spying Russians who openly invade their neighbors, firing missiles at occupied civilian markets and buildings and shoot unarmed civilians because - they’re Russians.
