I served 7 years in the USN Nuclear Submarine service. We carried on with the old diesel boat hell raising traditions. I drank my Dolphins in the Sub Vets bar in Groton Conn. Destroyer sailors had a few names for us, it was ok we had a few names for them too. Our motto was “anything that floats and is bigger than a shitcan is a target”. God help our service personnel with the crap officers leading them now. I thought Jimmy Carter was the bottom, lower than whale shit. I didn’t know the half of it. I say a little prayer every night for all of them. Young folks going in harms way. They have to watch their backs as much or more than their fronts as they face the enemies.
Too all the vets here thank you for your service and God bless those that have passed before.
Not surprising with the unemployment so low.
Plus, private sector demand for employees is still high.

I was on a destroyer. The only ones we really had a problem with were the Marines and the Coast Guard.

Oh they warned that did they? What warnings have they listened to these past fifty years from conservatives and traditionalists ? Had they listened we wouldn’t all be here now worrying about enlistment numbers. The trouble is Navy leaders are true assholes.
They lowered the bar just as far as they possibly could - meaning they are taking in some real low quality recruits - and they STILL fell short by 20%? How much would they have fallen short if they had maintained standards? 50%?
Better hit up the Pride parades and the Furry Conventions and Drag Queen Story hour at the libraries. They don’t seem to be bringing in enough of their precious “diverse” people.
Will tampon dispensers be provided in the heads on board ship too from now on?

Of all the images of the US Navy, the collision damage of the USS Fitzgerald, even the putrid and nauseating images posted by Angelino97, it is the one you posted that infuriates and disgusts me most of all.
I have almost reached the point where I barely even blame Iran for that. I blame our own civilian leadership for making an environment where they allow that to happen, and do nothing about it. Worse than doing nothing about it, they rewarded it.
Kerry and Obama. And the US Navy. All of them.
