The Adams administration just ditched a new class of rookie school-safety officers — and Hizzoner says maybe parents should step in and take up the slack.
Talk about intersectionality!
Here we have a decline in public safety colliding with a national border breakdown — and, as usual, the collateral damage falls on folks doing their best just to get by.
And the bad news certainly won’t be limited to parents fretting about classroom safety – not with tens of thousands of penniless migrants boring a multi-billion-dollar hole in the municipal fisc.
Specifically, the city just deep-sixed a class of 250 new school-safety officers – civilians who work with the NYPD to maintain order in city schools.
Not surprisingly, this has raised parental concern at a time when random violence plagues the Big Apple. Most schools probably are reasonably safe, for sure, but random is random – it’s hard to predict, almost impossible to prevent and fewer officers promises only to compound the problem.

I have a feeling there are enough stupid parents in and around the NYC area that they will get some volunteers.
Liability Insurance will not cover injuries from such a risky job when done by an amateur. Some parents may be able to handle it, those already accustomed to ‘Living Room Combat’ situations.

Yup. In any Democrat-run city in the USA, school security means carrying sidearms. Minimum magazine capacity 17 rounds. Body armor, too. AR-15 optional but recommended.

If a parent has the time to spend all day doing a security detail at school, why not just keep the kids home and school them yourself?
Even if you’re a high school drop out, it’s guaranteed they’ll get a better education, be safer, less confused and more confident than sending them to the communist reeducation camps that masquerade as public schools.

Back in early 1980, I was temporarily working as a Safety Officer at Hutchings Psychiatric Center (NY State run) in Syracuse, NY. It was a Grade 9 job. We were on call to respond to emergency situations on the units, and had to restrain patients that were out of control. We also had to transport drunks from Upstate Medical to the Alcohol Rehab Unit when they were ordered by two doctors to be held for evaluation. I can't tell you how many times we had to struggle with a drunk once they discovered they were headed to the nut house. "I'm drunk, not crazy" was regularly heard. There was a lot of physical confrontations working with the mentally ill and drunks.
That fall, I got hired off the civil service list for NY State Correctional Officer, and reported to Auburn Prison in Auburn, NY. I took the job because as a trainee, you were a Grade 12, and in nine months, when you finished your trainee period, you were moved up to a Grade 14. I figured if I was going to get my ass kicked, I'd prefer getting paid a higher salary. Did my time, and retired 20 years ago.
Adams worked in law enforcement. For him to ask parents to put themselves in jeopardy to do the job that paid individuals are supposed to do, especially with the threats of violence in today's schools, is moronic.
I’m guessing that many of the “baby’s mamas” may lack impulse control. The brawls should be epic.
My biggest fear for quite a while and it’s only growing with the open border situation: an American version of what happened at Beslan .... different “politics”, but targeting children for maximum outrage.
Let the lefties fight each other. They brought it in themselves.
Back a few years ago We (FReepers) were saying that since the cops were unable to do their job and protect Kids in school that the schools should let Armed Parents be present at the schools.
IIRC this discussion was about the time that the Florida school shooting happened and the cops were all outside cowering instead of going in and taking out the shooter. The shooting was where the kid rode his bicycle to the school and then he became the leftist poster boy for gun control. I don’t remember his name...
I remember that.
The problem is, in the leftist socialist utopia that NY has turned into, guns are not permitted. So the shooter would STILL have been able to slaughter at will.
That’s almost as funny as asking white boys to volunteer for the military
Easier said than done. Most families are living check to check scraping by in order to just feed their families but you’d have them cut a paycheck go bankrupt and live on the street. Homeschooling today, in today’s economy is a pipe dream. The reality of the world today is a large segment of society can barely afford a car. Once upon a time one year of wages could cover the total cost of a car and financing therefore was easy. At today’s car prices two years of salary covers that. That doesn’t even scratch the surface of inflation on goods and basic services, healthcare and electricity.
Saying “homeschooling” isn’t reality and isn’t happening in when the majority of Americans cannot afford a single income home.

that is why the stupid shiites can’t afford overpriced homes anymore.

I think a double digit amount of my taxes goes to funding schools in NC. I would absolutely REFUSE.

Tell him to get his butt into those classes to teach them.
