Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, are set to announce an agreement that would see Beijing crack down on the manufacture and export of fentanyl, according to people familiar with the matter, potentially delivering the U.S. president a major victory.

Under the deal — which is still being finalized — China would go after chemical companies to stem the flow of both fentanyl and the source material used to make the deadly synthetic opioid, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the agreement.

In return, the Biden administration would lift restrictions on China’s forensic police institute, the people said, an entity the U.S. alleges is responsible for human-rights abuses.

The agreement, set to be announced Wednesday when Biden and Xi meet in San Francisco on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, would mark a win for the White House on an issue voters say is a priority for the 2024 election.

Republicans have assailed the administration over its handling of fentanyl trafficking, turning it into a liability for Biden’s chances of winning a second term.

A White House National Security Council spokeswoman declined to comment. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country is willing to carry out anti-drug cooperation with the U.S. on the basis of “equality and mutual respect.”

“The U.S. should work with China in two directions to remove obstacles on the road to cooperation between the two sides,” the Chinese foreign ministry said in a response to questions.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters Monday that the U.S. hopes to see some progress on the fentanyl issue this week. “That could then open the door to further cooperation on other issues where we

I'm skeptical. As much as I hate to say it, they are getting revenge on us (The U.S.) for pushing drugs there from the 1780s, until well into the 1800s.

Biden running for re-election I guess doesn’t want to rock the boat with China that’s already rocky with chip export bans imposed on China by the US and China restricting mineral exports related to electric car batteries.

Yeah, they are going to crack down on the Fentanyl Manufacturers in China, the importers in Mexico, and the Distributors in the USA. Neither Biden or XI are getting their percentages promptly, and they aren’t going to put up with that any longer.

You’re right to be skeptical.

It’s hilarious too.

Chicoms assert there is not fentanyl or precursors coming from Chicomland.

Is Xi going to admit it now?

"As much as I hate to say it, they are getting revenge on us (The U.S.) for pushing drugs there from the 1780s, until well into the 1800s."

Then why did China go to war with Britain over the opium trade and not the U.S.?

They say they’ll do it, which they won’t, but we’ll allow them to keep their secret police stations open to harass, spy on and intimidate Chinese, here.
Let’s go, Brandon!

Eh...yeah...yeah...this meeting was about Fentanyl.

And the conversation between the AG and her Boss was about weddings and flower arrangements.

That’s the ticket.

True, the Russels and Delano of New England made money off the opium trade, but American entrepreneurs like Olyphant and Burr fought the trade. The US actually led the movement to outlaw its commerce, which was finally agreed to in the early 20th Century.

What a load of crap, Chicoms will double down on the drugs. It’s helping to destroy our country, that’s what they want.
