Senate Republicans face uncomfortable reality of Trump's 2024 comeback
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/13/23 | Emily Jacobs

Former President Donald Trump’s Republican detractors in the Senate are being forced to reckon with the increasing likelihood that he’ll be the party’s nominee next year.

The Senate GOP conference has a large swath of centrist and establishment Republicans with penchants for bipartisanship. Several of Trump’s GOP skeptics were able to develop decent working relationships with the former president while in office.

The former president’s GOP detractors grew more critical after Republicans underperformed in the 2022 midterm elections, only retaking the House by a slim margin and failing to regain Senate control. Those same senators now face an uncomfortable reality: Trump is the clear front-runner in the Republican primary field and is performing ahead of President Joe Biden in some general election polls.

Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN), who is leaving the Senate to run for governor, told the Washington Examiner that the onus will be on those skeptical GOP senators to mend fences with Trump if he's reelected next year, something he predicted would be an uphill climb.

"I think that's going to be complicated because I know this one thing: He's got a pretty good memory of who's wanted to help and who's been an antagonist. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I think that'll be an issue,” he said.

One of those Republicans, speaking on condition of anonymity, predicted that Trump would be incentivized to work with people he doesn’t like in order to be effective.

“Everyone who assumes the role of president wants to be remembered for genuine achievements. And the reality through our system of checks and balances is that in order to have achievements that are sustainable, you have to actually work with lawmakers,” the senator said.

These pantywaist Senators never supported Trump, and now they are being forced to squirm.

They wanted a McRomBush to be the nominee, didn't matter who (Chris, Tim, Mike, Doug, Asa, Nikki) or worst case, Ron.

But they will get Don.

Replace the word “Republican” with “Uniparty” and the article is correct.

How many ‘pubs’ would rather see the presidency go to the dems than to Trump? He will have a harder come back road than Churchill, for sure.

The real question is who can defeat Biden/Harris? Not sure
who that may be but we need someone that can bring the party
together to beat the dems on a national level.

Deep State may let Trump win in order to try to maintain the fiction that we still have free and fair elections.

Deep State may figure if it still controls Congress, the SCOTUS, and the bureaucracy, and it likely will, what’s it got to worry about?

Letting Trump win may be Deep State’s fall back position.

Neither Trump nor the Republican Party nor the Republican Parties in Name Only . . .

Have an organization that is consolidating all voter fraud vs. vote integrity matters.

But they would rather have Joe, or even Gavin. So they will prove it during the Fall campaign...

Actually, the opposite. We need a Patriot that can separate out the uniparty, and reclaim the Republican Party as the patriot party.

A pox on the McRombushes (from cotton's #1) of the Uniparty (Unum's #3). Without the rino's we soar, with them we are chained to a lead-weighted ball.

No, we just need to print and mark thousands of ballots. We need volunteers to stuff them Boxes good! They don’t win by votes, they win by ballots and by machines in targeted areas.

The current regime is easily beatable, but you can only beat the cheaters by cheating them. LOL
