Can confirm five U.S. Army Special Operations troops killed in a helicopter refueling accident off the southeastern coast of Cyprus on Saturday morning, according to U.S. officials familiar with the incident.
The troops were in the region as part of broader American contingency planning due to the war in Gaza, which has included preparations for possible evacuations from both Lebanon and Israel if they are needed.
U.S. officials privately are saying the same as their publicly pronouncements: This was a training exercise aimed at staying sharp in case they were needed later.
Families are being notified today. U.S. officials had been withholding commonly released details about the incident, including specific kind of aircraft involved, because it obviously tied back to Special Operations.
The helicopter that went down was an MH-60, a variant of the Black Hawk flown in Special Operations units.
Searches were ongoing yesterday and have concluded. That prompted U.S. disclosure today of five U.S. troops killed.

The Jihadis are threatening our members of Congress in our capital.
Arrest them.
Deport them.
\\//
Maybe our S F. should use them as human shields like hamas ?
that would qualify as “ proportional” wouldn’t it ?
People die. It happens every day and the vast majority are things that just “happen.” Here’s the numbers.
Have you ever served?
Training missions can be very dangerous, and many deaths occur every year.
Just pray for these guys and leave the wonder unanswered until after they're grieved for and buried.
More US Service Members Die Training Than At War. Can The Pentagon Change That?
This article is from 2018:
But most of the dramatic incidents involved aviation accidents, which according to an analysis by the Military Times news organization are at a six-year high. Overall, over the past five years, 133 troops died in aircraft training incidents.
There are about 1.3 million active duty military and another 800,000 reservists in the United States, so training doesn't represent extreme danger. What's more, the numbers in any single year are small enough that that can be swayed by a single big accident or spate of accidents. Still, the problems and risks in military training are common enough and systemic enough that officials are paying attention.
During the Reagan years, we averaged about 2200 dead GIs per year.
“This is their cover story for KIAs in Gaza.”
Likely so. Also sources tell me that Chinese combat engineers got into Gaza as ‘tourists’ (or something similar), and then taught the Palestinians how to build their first-rate tunnels (based on their Vietnam experience). Now about 100 of these soldiers are trapped down there and China is desperately trying to get them out before the tunnels get flooded.
(obviously I’m not at liberty to disclose my sources)
I seem to recall passengers weren’t allowed when performing aerial refueling training flights. Marine Corps policy, anyway.

You can easily tell us about your sources, and what kind of sources they are.
North Koreans have been supporting anyone with cash for decades.
The US simply chooses not to prosecute the mission.
Whether helping cartels improve/build tunnels across the border, helping Saddam improve his technology or helping the Hezbollah across Lebanon, it happened and is happening.
With full approval of the NK heads of state.
That the Chinese were involved in Gaza tells me that the NKs are elsewhere.
And got outbid.
China and Iran have created a new axis of evil.
Refueling a Black Hawk means extended range mission planning
“This was a training exercise aimed at staying sharp in case they were needed later.”
BS.
Just great. Are these the ones Biden doxxed?
Is he trying to repeat Obama’s erasure of the Seal Team in Afghanistan after he doxxed them?
“You can easily tell us about your sources, and what kind of sources they are.”
Don’t answer that Bob. That is a straight up attempt to dox you and your sources.
Does someone here know the usual staffing of an MH-60 crew?
Does it list the MOS of the deceased?
>> “This was a training exercise aimed at staying sharp in case they were needed later.”
>> BS.
I don’t buy it either. How do they say it diplomatically... “Strains credulity”.
Item:
Cyprus is NOT a NATO member.
These casual reports of troops stationed there . . . .
It’s half Greek half Turk, and both of those are NATO members, but Cyprus is not.
