Congressman Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, announced on Thursday that he would not be seeking reelection in 2024.
He posted a video message on the social media platform X, saying he wants to spend more time with his family.
"At home, that's where my amazing wife Monica and two young children, Brad and Sophia, are. That's the place where I really want to be somebody," Wenstrup said in the video.
Wenstrup was first elected in 2012 and served in Ohio's second Congressional district for five terms.
He did not say what his next move would be.
"Throughout my life, I've heard the call to duty. Duty called me to medicine, then to the Army, then to Congress," he said. "Duty to those I love most now calls me back home."

Are any of these retirements related to the prostitution arrests in Maryland?
Just shut up and go away. Why is broadcasting your decision so important? The usual “time with family” crap is such nonsense. You mean you haven’t spent time with your family ‘till now?”
It is an r-25 district so it should be super safe.
GOP Rep. Wenstrup is in District 2 of Ohio, which runs from the Ohio River (southern Ohio border) to just east of Cincinnati, just south of Columbus, and just west of Athens (Ohio University). Solid Republican district. He beat Jean Schmidt, the Republican incumbent, in the 2012 primary.
Wenstrup is a practicing podiatric surgeon, and did a tour in Iraq 2005-2006. He was in the Army Reserves from 1998-2022, retiring as a colonel.
He’s recently (2023) advocated that we get more sources for medicine outside of China, which seems reasonable. Middle of the road, aka moderate Republican. Chairs a House Covid committee, so he’s no Paul (Ron or Randall).
Most Dems have to be dragged virtually kicking and screaming from their fiefdom, formally called “elective office”.
I recall decades ago when a Ca. Governor Schwartzenegger tried to use traditional procedural rules to get rid of an annoying problem called Maxine Waters. For a few brief and glorious months, Maxine held near zero legislative power.
She had been replaced, and for the time being, her wings were clipped. I have forgotten what her actual position was.
She wouldn’t accept it, and goaded enough Dopey Dems to return her to that same level of influence less than 2 years later. She pawned his Bishop.
Will his campaign donations be his ‘retirement fund’?
Spend more time with my family = My ass is grass, and Donald Trump is the lawnmower.
He voted to accept Biden’s electors on January 6th.
In one day: Manchin; Derek Kilmer (D) (U.S. representative for Washington’s 6th congressional district); Brian Higgins (D)(New York’s 26th congressional district) and now Wenstrup have all announced they will not be running for re-election.
Being a Congressman in DC has lost its allure, and the acrimony has taken hold of the government. Put another way, the jig is up. Really tough situation in DC now that interest in the debt has reached $1 trillion a year. These rats are fleeing a sinking ship.
Love it! Great. There’s also BB King: Nobody loves me but my mother…and she could be lying too.
Looks like the jig is up for some of these swamp critters.
Oh, heard about Manchin but not about the two Dem congressmen.
The hypocrite voted for h1-b Indians while doing a photo op with 2 cute college girls from Cincinnati. I always call him wave-the-flag-in-your-face Wenstrup.
I live in a poor county in his district with 20 Square miles of solar panels, spit. You should have seen how the rino trash rigged it to prevent citizens from voting against this travesty.
