Since I live close to where this trial is happening, I have been watching it closely.
This was a very challenging trial for the jury. Both in terms of length and complexity.
My main observation is that the hospitals lawyers made a couple of stupid mistakes that opened the door for the plaintiffs to get documents showing the hospital had a history of less than stellar management.
In the end I believe the jury saw the same and awarded a mega-verdict in favor of the Kowalski’s.
Now the next step will be the appeals court and they might not get the $200+ million settlement, but it will still be substantial.
And the ketamine the mother wanted her to have in Mexico, is more available in the US now as a treatment for Maya’s disease.
