Democrats have regained full control of the Virginia General Assembly in a blow to Governor Glenn Youngkin, who poured millions of dollars into securing the legislature for his final two years in office. Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell also saw his Kentucky Governor candidate, Daniel Cameron, lose to Democrat Andy Beshear.
Anti-Trumpers within the GOP ranks have rushed to somehow blame the 45th President for the GOP’s pitiful displays on Wednesday, including an abortion rights blow-out in Ohio.
But Trump’s endorsement of Cameron was a last ditch attempt to save a struggling GOP campaign that has been stymied by its establishment backers, including recent DeSantis endorser Kim Reynolds, head of the Republican Governor’s Association, who failed to campaign or even mention Cameron’s race once, preoccupied with campaigning with DeSantis across Iowa.
Youngkin, who many had tipped to enter the Presidential race if his slate of candidates did well on Tuesday, is also a client of DeSantis’s chief strategist Jeff Roe, which is likely why the Florida Governor’s online operation has been told to trash Trump on the back of Tuesday night, rather than have the limelight aimed at Roe and his network.
The Democratic Party not only maintained its slim majority in the Virginia State Senate, but also seized control of the House of Delegates, held by Republicans since 2021.
Youngkin did not immediately comment on the results. The chairman of his PAC, Dave Rexrode, however, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that “[w]e had hoped for a stronger outcome this evening but are proud of the effort all of our candidates put in to these extremely competitive districts.”
yes but did Cameron vigorously endorse Trump?
did he fully embrace 110 percent MAGA?
did he reject the election corruption that put pedophile Joe in his fake position of power?
did he fully reject abortion as a moral failure of our nation and of his state?
did he full throat reject transgenderism and it’s related perversions including child mutilation?
did he publicly embrace faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to God’s laws as evidenced in the Bible and teachings of christ?
how loud did he get over the open border in his political adverts?
did his advertisements include all of the above?
these are becoming the litmus proofs of whether one can win or not. anyone not fully embracing the above will get a 30 percent voter turnout in their process of failing, througout the red state american majority...
the ascendancy of MAGA is the flip side of the same kind... removal of the uniparty rinos... and this is what the removal of rinos looks like in process.
I’m not casting aspersions on anyone, it’s just that I think it’s ludicrous blaming McConnell for the loss. Did Kentuckians (who have elected McConnell SEVEN times) punish Cameron for a connection to him which had nothing to do with his qualifications for governorship?
This “Trump trashing people and that they must kiss the ring or Trump’s butt” is some talking point that seems to have been pushed out by team desantis....
desanctimonious used it himself in interviews the other day...
The old establishment Republican model was all about tax cuts, neocon foreign policy and social issues. You can't win on the model anymore.
The MAGA model is the only path to becoming a majority party.
That’s funny. I hadn’t seen that. DeSantis’s problem is that he wanted it both ways. He wanted to be Mr. MAGA while undermining MAGA’s de facto leader.
If Trump really wants to finish DeSantis off, he should just endorse him
2. We have seen a lot of polls posted recently about how badly Biden is doing in the polls. We should take a step back and not get too excited. Voters chose democrat over republican, when it was time to vote. That should be the focus. Not figuring out who should be in Trumps cabinet, or what color curtains Trump should use in the WH when he wins e.t.c. /sarcasm
Agreed. The biggest threat the GOP faces is the establishment.
The GOP IS the establishment.
Well, I can’t disagree with that.
That's gonna leave a mark.
Hey, even kissing Trump's butt doesn't help
Under the bus goes Cameron (Trump respects loyalty so, so much --BWAHAHA)
I see that idea that Cameron is McConnell’s protégé or something like that so often that I wonder how true it really is. There was even a rumor that Cameron was married to Mitch’s granddaughter. A lot of people in politics started out as somebody or other’s protégé. I wonder why we hear that so repeatedly and constantly about Cameron. It sounds a little like a smear.
Trump is excellent at picking losers. See Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker. Both hand picked by him in very winnable seats, and both shot down in flames. One by a guy practically comatose.
Yes, the cult still insists Trump is the Messiah.
Cameron had a lot going against him, no endorsement was going to get him the governorship it may have helped with the primary. If he was talking about war and such then he was a idiot, that has nothing to do with Kentucky, abortion is also not a winner for the GOP people don’t like being told what they can and can’t do with their bodies but there is nothing wrong with abortion limits and defiantly no taxpayer funds to pay for the persons behavior. He lost for one reason, the other guy was liked by the voters. he couldn’t say anything that was going to help him win
Trump can get a person who would normally get 30% of the vote up to 45% of the vote, but that’s the ceiling.
No need. DeSantis is imploding on his own, quite effectively.
He does put me in mind of late-stage King Saul; insecure, bitter, vain, self-absorbed, and jealous
