Space has become the new theater of war after Israel shot down a rocket soaring 'outside of Earth's atmosphere.'
The Israel Defense (IDF) revealed last week that its Arrow missile defense system took down an 'aerial threat' allegedly fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
While details are sparse, the accepted boundary between Earth's atmosphere and space is 62 miles above the surface, known as the Kármán line.
IDF said the Arrow intercepted a surface-to-surface missile in the Red Sea fired towards its territory after the rocket traveled nearly 1,000 miles from Yemen.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed it was the third attack the group had launched at Israel and vowed there would be more to come until 'Israeli aggression' stopped, referring to the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It’s still in orbit
Should ramp up the UFO sightings!!
I don’t see the problem with the headline if you’re talking about the title of the DM article. Satellites have been taken out by aircraft-launched AA missiles in testing but this is the first known ground-launched interception of a space vehicle that I know of.
Expensive and seemingly devoid of purpose.
I guess it’s possible, but why?
“There are two countries on this planet that could pull that off.”
Israel, with US money and technology ...
“Where did a third world country terrorist group get a missile that could do that?”
Iran.
“What would be the point of using a space-entry ballistic missile for such a small distance (NYC to Kansas City)?”
Because we shot down their low altitude cruise missile.
Because the want to test the Arrow system.
Houthi rebels shot a missile that was traveling at least 330,000 ft.
Why?
I guess the leftists will say that the “Zionists” are “colonizing” space against peaceful Islamic rockets.
This terrorist group is backed by Iran per the article. Iran is backed by Russia...which are also aligned with China and North Korea.
Fine. Who gave it to them and how?
If an air-breathing fighter jet can get that high, it’s an obsolete definition of “space.”
.
Numerous ICBM missiles and reentry vehicles have been shot down in space by ground/sea based missiles in exercises. We also shot down a US spy satellite that was going to crash. That intercept was at about 150 miles altitude using an SM3 missile from USS Lake Erie.
The shoot down of this Iranian/Houthi missile is just the first publicly acknowledged COMBAT interception in space.
“shot down” or “left a mark in space”
62 miles is 327,360 feet. No air breathing fighter jet is getting anywhere near that altitude.
Which fighter jets can get beyond 328008 feet?
The USA with printed money and Israeli tech, but close.
If you’re asking why I called BS, it’s because it makes no sense.(to me)
Houthi rebels, while receiving funding and equipment from Iran, are not near the capability of Iran.
Also, why would you shoot a missile into LEO if one is targeting Israel from Yemen?
What was the payload and target?
Why draw needless attention?
How many IEDs and vests could be made for the same cost?
