California was supposed to have high speed rail. After billions of government dollars there is no rail line.
A private company, Brightline, operates high speed rail in Florida.
Brightline is also set to begin construction on a high speed rail from LA to Las Vegas. Odds are great that Brightline West will be up and running before California HSR even begins to lay track.
Thanks for that. Yes, private rail could most definitely be successful. I don't know what form it would take - that's up to private entreprenuers.
They way the present US rail system is composed is a highly-regulated, socialist-style oligopoly, where Fed.gov runs loss-making commuter trains, and private rail control rights-of-way and freight, with strong government oversight.
I saw a YouTube video about Brightline Florida and it didn’t have very many passengers at all.
I think it needs more stations. Currently, there are no stations between Orland and West Palm Beach. To increase ridership, they need stations in Cocoa, Melbourne or Palm Bay, Vero Beach, and Fort Pierce.
Another line between Orlando, Ocala, and Gainesville could serve UF football games.
