WASHINGTON — The Biden administration faces an uphill battle to reauthorize a key surveillance tool, known as Section 702, before it expires at the end of the year as members of both parties of Congress push for big changes.
Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, allows the government to conduct targeted surveillance of foreign nationals living outside the U.S. without needing to obtain a warrant. It has become increasingly controversial over the years.
As recently as this month, a court opinion disclosed that FBI employees wrongly searched foreign surveillance data for the last names of a U.S. senator and a state senator. The opinion also said that another FBI employee ran a query using the Social Security number of a state judge who complained about alleged civil rights violations by a municipal chief of police.

The article barely mentions that “Sec 702” was at the heart of the entire Fake-Russia-Dossier conspiracy and coup against Trump
The Dossier (and lies) were used to get FISA permits which effectively allowed unlimited surveillance on Trump and his team, which was then also used by “contractors” (read DNC cronies) as well as the FBI to watch Trump’s every move.
The entire thing needs to be dismantled and the 40+ US spying/intelligence agencies completely re-formulated while some Americans at least still have an idea of what a “republic” is.
And why exactly didn’t the “Judge” immediately refer this criminal for Criminal Prosecution??

Make them get warrants. every damned time. It’s no like they don’t already have judges that will sign any piece of paper presented to them, since the FBI has dirt on them.
Amen. I vividly recall arguing strongly against the "patriot" act right here on FR and being called every name in the book. Many, many supporters of the police state on this site.
How about we just let the FBI expire at the end of the continuing resolution?
