Deranged Maine shooter Robert Card was denied silencer at gun shop months before massacre

Mass shooter Robert Card was turned away from a Maine gun store when he tried to buy a silencer for his assault rifle months before he launched a massacre at a bowling alley and bar — a move that possibly saved countless lives.

Card, 40, went to Coastal Defense Firearms in Auburn on Aug. 5 to pick up the accessory he ordered online — but was turned down when staff learned about his mental history, ABC News reported.

“He came in and filled out the form. He checked off a box that incriminated himself saying he was in an institution,” shop owner Rick LaChapelle told the outlet. “Our staff was fantastic. Let him finish filling out the form and said, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. Card, we cannot give you this.'”

For me, other than the hair and beard….

Guy with gun looks young

Card looks like he’s worn out

The guy in the video seems to have more hair, enough to part. Card’s hair looks too thin.

Shape of face and nose seem slightly different.

After the fed paperwork, you still have to wait to get the tax stamp, averages right now anywhere from 4-7 months.

“ Something doesn’t add up. Suppressors are an NFA item. There is a lot more paperwork involved than just filling out paperwork at a store.”
You have to file all the application stuff with the feds. Once your approved it ships to a dealer. Then you go pick it up. Takes over a year from payment of fee to delivery.
According to a neighbor.

This is a very poorly written article. It takes 8 months for the NFA paperwork and of course your $200.00 check for the tax stamp. Nobody is going to just walk away from that.

He was shooting a .308 from what I’ve read. A suppressed.308 still generates about 150 decibels not to mention the supersonic crack that can’t be suppressed. Terrible article full of incomplete information.

“The only ones that sound as quiet as Hollywood makes it out to be is subsonic .22 ammo on a .22 with a suppressor.”

yes they are really quiet, you hear the gun click and that is about it

I’m embarrassed to admit I read the article. The gun shop picked up the disqualification on the 4473 before they even sent it in. Saved him $200. Also, having a friend still engaged in the process, it takes more than eight months now - lots more.

One thing that had always bothered me about that is,
If the casings were on the floor before he killed himself wouldn’t the empty casings have blood on them?
There were empty casings everywhere but none seem to have blood on them. How did he breath that hose was very long and he would just be rebreathing his own breath. How he break that glass? I hit one with a 24” pipe wrench, didn’t even leave a mark
Many questions in my mind

How exactly would a suppressor have enabled him to kill more people?

I doubt it would have, but it makes for a more dramatic newspaper story, huh?

Store owner is a moron. The guy didn’t incriminate himself. He actually told the TRUTH on the form. If he’d have said he hadn’t been in an institution, he’d have been lying on the 4473 and THEN would have incriminated himself. Good lord. Morons.

Yep. This story is complete BS. Ordered it and then casually went to the store to pick it up. I don’t think so. That gun store is going to get a little visit from the ATF.

How exactly would a suppressor have enabled him to kill more people? As anybody who has been at a range and heard a gun with a suppressor could tell you, you can still distinctly hear them. They are anything but silent.

Sadly the media prefer to push the TV version of a silencer instead of informing the people what they really sound like. Heck I would be encouraged if eve a single court were to demonstrate them to the ATF and the Supremes who won't allow citizens to have them.

Of course that would force the Cop and Military/spy shows to take up the bloody knife to maintain a silent attack mode.
