White House warns Biden would veto House appropriations measures

The White House on Monday issued veto threats against two GOP-led House appropriations bills expected to come up for a vote this week as lawmakers seek to avoid a government shutdown in November.

The administration expressed its opposition to two funding bills likely to come up on the House floor in the coming days — one that would fund the Department of the Interior, Environment and related agencies, and another that would fund the Department of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and related agencies.

need to set-up a new rule on appropriations. For every dollar appropriated, one existing dollar eliminated. Expenses must be cut.

The new Congress should call for an annual across the board cut in expenses of 3%-5%, throughout government, even DOD. (DOD is too fat, too many programs that should have been eliminated years ago)

The White House is now warning Biden?

It's a poorly worded headline. Should read "The White House Warns THAT Biden..."

In both cases, the White House argued the bills put forward by Republicans in the House undercut an agreement reached by administration officials and GOP lawmakers in May …

“Hello Joe ? … Yeah, that guy Kevin ? … he no longer works here …”

Get rid of baseline budgeting and go to zero-based budgeting. Much easier way to eliminate huge programs that provide no benefits to the people.

Yes. I was making a joke about that horribly worded headline.

I do not recall the last time a president vetoed a spending bill.

Exactly. Presidents don’t write budgets. The House does.

If Biden doesn’t like it for supper then he can have it for breakfast.

He won’t have to. I can pretty much guarantee enough of the Republican caucus will stop it for him, and if they don’t stop it the Senate will.

It wouldn't be a "House" bill after the Senate concurs.

Then it would be Biden who is the obstructionist. Why wouldn't the White House want to fund the Department of the Interior?

Of course, they want the "must pass" crisis of an omnibus bill that funds the whole government, not the piecemeal department-level bills that individually are not controversial.

No, the headline is correct. Biden isn’t really the White House anymore, he hasn’t ever really been.

I doubt that even 10% of government is Constitutional.

The more Biden veto’s the less he’ll get.

The slow strangle works faster for results.

Vetoing anything that funds a ‘department’ sounds good to me.

Fund Departments of State, Defense, and Treasury, which are constitutional requirements. The States handle everything else.

The White House threatening to shut down the government hands the Republicans in Congress the absolutely PERFECT opportunity to pass a Constitutional budget, eliminating worthless federal departments like DHS, Energy, Education, EPA, FBI, HUD, Interior and TSA while fully funding support for Israel and cutting off the money-laundering spigot to Ukraine.

It’s going to be really depressing watching how the Republicans manage to not only blow it, but have it boomerang on them for a huge defeat.

when EBTs are defunded.

The urban centers burn then the looting moves to the suburbs.
