Rep. John Sarbanes (D-3rd) said Thursday he will not seek a 10th term in office in 2024.
In the surprise announcement, Sarbanes said he was voluntarily stepping down at the end of his current term to return to work in the nonprofit sector.
“I believe in public service. My siblings and I grew up with the teaching that there are many ways to serve. Being in Congress is one of them — a truly humbling opportunity to make a difference,” Sarbanes said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “But before coming to Congress, I also found great reward in working with nonprofits, volunteering and otherwise contributing to my community. That too is a powerful form of public service. For some time now, I have found myself drawn back to that kind of work — wanting to explore the many opportunities to serve that exist outside of elected office. With that in mind, I have decided not to seek re-election in 2024. While I am making this announcement today — specifically for the benefit of candidates interested in running for my seat in next year’s election — I’m not going anywhere for the next fourteen months. That’s what’s left in my term and I’m committed to finishing strong.”
Tributes from colleagues and supporters quickly followed the announcement

9 terms = 54 years.
The Politburo had that kind of longevity.

Above is about his district. Very Democratic and third most gerrymandered district in country.
Not compared to some of our others, all neighbors. We have 1 that looks like a thin tow hook sticking out of a broken base of concrete.
This is my district. It is indeed 1 of the very worst gerrymandered districts anywhere. Right now, it looks pretty normal.
Bottom line is that it is always rigged to reach out to as many Dem areas and squeeze in the few Repubs so they are minimized (not hard to do here, so I always wonder why the need to gerrymander anyway). I mean, we’ve had single streets be the tie between more bloated parts of the “district”.
Our area is FULL of communist traitors, who post virtue-signalling signs constantly especially since Trump became president. They are mostly of the Fed-DC-Gov-Lovers/workers extraction. IOW, alot of “foreigners” who don’t even hail from here. But all the kinds who flock to support government - as “workers” as well as fanboys.
Maryland has one Republican in Congress. He’s a hood one. The others are all leftists who hate America. Most of them are backbenchers who do nothing.
Jamie Raskin is an obnoxious communist. Sarbanes is just a typical pelosi sycophant.
Hood=good
He’s in The House unlike his father who was a Senator, so only 18 years. Methinks there’s an undisclosed health problem.
My bad, I only knew of the Dad (thankfully).
Meanwhile, in Georgia, we will have to redraw our lines to “meander” through several different counties and cities to make sure there is a couple more districts created in which the residents have nothing in common except the color of their skin. I suspect the new districts will make sure to gather up enough urban areas to make the districts go decidedly “blue” from now until the end times.
Dumbocrat, follow the money.
Re: Maryland Senate race -
Very difficult for Republicans statewide, but this is helpful. We will probably have 12 or 15 candidates in the GOP primary before it’s over. There are four now including perennial candidate Robin Ficker and a new entry retired USAF BG John Teichert. Met John at a Republican club meeting recently. He sounds great but will have to raise some serious money to get noticed in a general election.
Dem front runners are Angela Alsobrooks (current Prince George’s County Executive, endorsed by the Dem governor) and wine merchant Congressman David Trone (who will spend $30 million + of his own money).
Waste of time.
Given that map, the western half (Mt Airy) is ‘West Virginia’ conservative, and the eastern half is definitely more liberal
Its good to be the king of his state. Sad thing is, his one party state will replace him with worse.
I know the area. The Republicans run candidates in the Maryland’s 3rd, 4th and 8th districts but they get so little of the vote that is it meaningless. Howard, Anne Arundel, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties are leftard strongholds, filled with federal workers and flush with federal cash. As long as they can feed from the federal teet they will never not vote overwhelming Dhimmicrat. There’s not a leftist idea they don’t cherish.
The fact that Larry Hogan could win the governorship twice as a Republican is somewhat miraculous. He definitely wasn’t what anyone would call a conservative, but he did lower a some taxes, try to fight crime and make some changes for the better. That can’t be said for his predecessor, Martinoon Owe’Malley, or his successor, Waste Moore.
The Eastern Shore of MD is pretty conservative as is the western panhandle. There are conservatives in Southern Md in counties such as St. Mary’s and Calvert, but there are a lot of federal workers that commute to DC from there also. Baltimore, Montgomery, Howard, PG and Anne Arundel have so much more population and it’s primarily ultra libtards. The City of Frederick used to be conservative, but it’s been overtaken by the Montgomery and Howard County libtards moving into it. It’s now a lost cause.
He's a Rep not a Senator. 9 House terms = 18 years. Still too long!!!
This is a good sign that the Democrats don’t think they’re winning back the house next round. Why give up a safe seat and a chance to be in the majority?
