When I took high school journalism, I had to do an interview. I chose our principal.
I got an A, but the journalism teacher, who was also the student newspaper adviser, discussed with the student editor in front of me whether or not they’d publish it. Nah, it was too positive since they often butted heads with him over the paper. I didn’t have any critical, hard hitting questions to ask him.
It was a puff piece, and so it was like, that doesn’t meet journalism standards!
Or so I thought. I’ve been dismayed in the decades since to see puff pieces that far outdo mine, and are positively fawning, like this one. And mine had no importance. It was just a class exercise.
