In 2023, Dallas Councilman Jesse Moreno decided to use $20,000 dollars of discretionary funds to hold a gun turn-in event at a Dallas park. The event evolved over time. It was held at Samuell Grand in The Cove parking lot. The event became a rousing success for those selling guns and for private purchasers. It was a frustrating experience for most of those attempting to turn in guns for gift cards.
According to a police source at the event, people started getting in line very early. One pickup, with about a hundred shotguns to turn in, was in line by 7 a.m. The event was scheduled to start at 9 a.m. This correspondent arrived at 8:23 a.m. There was a line of about 20 vehicles extending East down Samuel Blvd, with the nearby lane separated from traffic by traffic cones. To their credit, the event organizers did not start accepting turn-ins until about 9:01 a.m. The turn-in of a long gun received gift cards worth $200.
The pickup with the shotguns was the second vehicle in line. The first vehicle seemed to be associated with the event in some way, and did not appear to have a firearm to turn in.

Please have a gun buy-back in my area! I have two junk shotguns I want to get rid of.
Two of the Turkish shotguns turned in at the Dallas event. Event organizers paid $200 for each of them.
This is all leading to an attempt to completely disarm America so we can end up like the Israelis. No defense but a stick or a hammer.
Back on topic. There is zero indication that these stupid gun buy backs reduce crime. Waste of time and money.
I would give $200 each for those O/U shotguns any day!
Should have painted them black and duct taped a roll of coins as a fore grip on the barrel - would have got $400 each. Another $100 each if they took a sharpie and wrote AR on the receiver. All to save us from those scary assault rifles!
The firearms were to be turned over to the Dallas police department for "disposal".
It doesn't appear any legal contract was signed with the Dallas P.D.
I think the Dallas P.D. can do anything they want with the guns, as long as they do not violate federal law.
What idiot was running this event? If the extensible purpose was to get guns that are likely to result in accidents or to be used in crimes, the best course of action would be to go after handguns but it sounds like they offered $100 for handguns and $200 for long guns. They mostly got shotguns which are very unlikely to be accidentally or criminal used. Very odd choices.
I’d have paid $225 for one of those. Can’t have too many shotguns.

Good question. I tried to find out. It appeared "nobody" was in charge.
My suspicion is the Dallas P.D. was asked to take possession of the firearms which were turned in. Several firearms instructors from the Dallas P.D. showed up to help.
When no one seemed to know what was going on, one of them took the initiative and said: here is what we are going to do.
No one else wanted to take responsibility, so a little leadership won out.
How the values for firearms were determined is unknown to me. At first, a flat $100 per gun was mentioned. Late in the game, (days before the event) it was changed to $200 for long guns and $100 for handguns.
OR you could be like the guy who 3D printed parts of 30+ hand guns on his home 3D printer. This happened last year in central NYS. He collected $21,000. The state of NY ended up changing the law.

Your brush is a bit too broad. There are three significant groups who turn in guns at these events:
Inheritors - those who inherited guns, are not interested in them, just want to get rid of them without a problem. These are usually the majority.
Economic turn ins - These have guns they know are worth less than what they can get at the event. Many of these are patriots in the gun culture.
Ideological - These are hard core leftists who want the guns destroyed. They will not sell a thousand dollar gun, but would rather get $100 and see it destroyed.
There is always some overlap in these groups
In my opinion, well over half the guns turned in at Dallas were "economic" for one reason or another.
With the Muzzies and Mexican cartels moving in to take over the U.S., I don’t think it’s a good idea to sell any firearms you have laying around. You might need them. Buy some ammunition instead for when the paragliders show up.
And I’ll bet after the shootings in Maine last night old Joe will be preaching gun confiscation to “make everyone safe” ... except for criminals, gangbangers and illegal aliens who won’t turn in their weapons.
I’ve seen those turkish shotguns online for $150. With a $200 buyback, an even better deal.
In the mean time Jewish people are buying firearms like never before.
What is the situation with them? They retail from $850 - $1200.
Do they have some sort of defect?
There's a Turkisk brand "Escort" that's cheap. Here's a link to one I found quick for 175. Not defective, just cheap.
