House Republicans’ opposition to House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) was worse than it was for House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) to become Speaker.
After Emmer became the House Republican Speaker-designate by a 117-97 vote over Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), he faces a steep uphill climb to become Speaker of the House.
Reports from Punchbowl News indicated there are 26 House Republicans who said they would vote for someone other than Emmer on the House floor. Punchbowl News’s Jake Sherman referred to it as a “gigantic pool of No’s.”
Rep. Brandon Williams (R-NY) told CNN the bulk of the votes were in favor of the previous Speaker-designate, Jordan.
“There were 26 that either voted present or voted for another candidate. Of those I believe there were 5 that voted present and the bulk of them were for Jim Jordan. I think there was 5 for Mike Johnson, 1 for Byron Donalds,” Williams said.

Wright County, where both Emmer and I have have houses... Is the reddest County in a sea of blue and purple.
He’s not great... but he’s not a quisling like McCarthy either.
house republican conference needs to be changed to house republican cluster.
The Republicans (unless forced or stolen), will not reach a consensus on a leader until they reach a consensus on what they stand for and want to accomplish. Sadly, there are too many special interests, task masters and back stabbers looking out for themselves to do otherwise at the moment.
“Houston, we have an identity problem...”
Emmer is a Dem running as a Republican to get the money to campaign but votes with the Dems and a follower of Obozo and Soros.
Yes, he’s not picking up support. But who might be good speaker that is not part of McCarthy’s leadership team?
Trump.
The pro-rape and baby-butchery protests raging all across MN tells us all we need to know about anyone elected from that burgeoning caliphate...
And plenty of us hate those idiots right back. What a world.
