House Republicans’ opposition to House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) was worse than it was for House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) to become Speaker.
After Emmer became the House Republican Speaker-designate by a 117-97 vote over Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), he faces a steep uphill climb to become Speaker of the House.
Reports from Punchbowl News indicated there are 26 House Republicans who said they would vote for someone other than Emmer on the House floor. Punchbowl News’s Jake Sherman referred to it as a “gigantic pool of No’s.”
Rep. Brandon Williams (R-NY) told CNN the bulk of the votes were in favor of the previous Speaker-designate, Jordan.
“There were 26 that either voted present or voted for another candidate. Of those I believe there were 5 that voted present and the bulk of them were for Jim Jordan. I think there was 5 for Mike Johnson, 1 for Byron Donalds,” Williams said.

I still think they should go with a fresh face, such as Byron Donalds. No one with the history of association with McCarthy is going to get approved.

Motions to vacate are always in order and if the Dems joined RINOs to keep him as Speaker, you can refile the motion, over and over and over. It takes total precedence of all activity.
