The article gives a good synopsis on US military deployment to the Middle East over the past week.
“We are deliberately sending an incredibly strong signal to our adversaries but also to our allies and partners about the depth of our support and the ability of the U.S. military to expeditiously, dynamically, respond to contingencies anywhere in the world,” the senior U.S. defense official. “That’s what we’re demonstrating today in the Middle East.”
Didn’t we hear much the same thing from Russia about their “exercise” which turned into an invasion?
Good info, but are you concerned with how these deployments and actions seem to mirror the opening act of the book you draw your handle from.
Alas Babylon. What a great book.
Forgive my ignorance, but is every squadron a full 24? Lordy, that’s a L-O-T!
We need to stay out of this. That being said, Where are the A-10’s
A10s are cool…but I don’t think I would want to pilot one halfway across the globe.
Is that enough for sustained meaningful operations against who they are likely to see in theater there?
Randy said, "Paul, there's one thing more. Who won the war?"
Paul put his fists on his hips and his eyes narrowed. "You're kidding! You mean you really don't know?"
"No. I don't know. Nobody knows. Nobody's told us."
"We won it. We really clobbered 'em!" Hart's eyes lowered and his arms drooped. He said, "Not that it matters."
Another reason for my handle is the Biblical line in Revelation of the phrase (Alas, Babylon!). I cannot change God's will.
We are staying out of this. Keeping this strong force there is designed to ensure Iran stays out of it. I don’t think they’ll do anything if we act strong.
I know Biden is in charge, but even so it’s right for us to be there and help stifle more war. Is Biden (or his handlers) stupid enough to do something beyond just keeping a presence?
Yes. THAT worries me, but I’m still an American Christian who absolutely opposes Islamic fundamentalists, too.
“I cannot change God’s will.”
Nor would you want to.
The universal declaration, once all is fully known, is already documented:
Just and True are Your ways, O King of the Saints
Yes, 24 per squadron for F-15 and 16s. (The A-10 squadrons have 30. B1, 2 and 52s are smaller.)
And there are spares at depot/available elsewhere.
At any given time, there are hanger queens and aircraft awaiting repair parts, but during deployed mission ops all available aircraft, including spares, are sent out.
Storm clouds are building.
I bet this really pisses off Mr. Z.
Heck if I know. But it is enough to give me chills, and I hope to heck it is enough to do its primary work of deterrence.
The F-16 Fighting Falcons are part of a broader package of forces that have deployed after Hamas’ attack on Israel. F-15Es from RAF Lakenheath, U.K., and A-10 Thunderbolt IIs from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., have already arrived in the region to bolster the U.S. Air Force presence.
Hope it is being kept secret !!!
We also have the US Navy with their very capable air arm on the Eisenhower in theater, too.
That’s what, another 60 or more?
As a 9 year old I remember watching a cold war story on Playhouse 90. It may have been on of the first Playhouse 90s. It was called Forbidden Area about Russian saboteurs. It was written by Pat Frank. I only saw a bit of it as my mom thought too scary for a 9 year old. Years later, way after Alas Babylon came out, I tracked down Forbidden Area and that led me to Alas Babylon. Great stories and FWIW my mom was right.
Funny I just heard the Eisenhower was being deployed this morning, and I planned on trying to find out. I had a (possibly ignorant) notion that it sailed without much of a payload, and the fighters mostly deployed by air. But what do I know? Very little, I’m afraid.
