The former vice president has gone all out to win Iowa. But is anyone listening?

Inside Penn Drug, an old pharmacy and lunch counter in rural Sidney not far from Iowa’s southern border, a smattering of retirees gather each morning to gripe about the world’s problems. Today, two dozen of them wearing Mike Pence stickers, had convened. I wondered, had I walked into the biggest room of Pence stans in Iowa since his June announcement? (That event featured about 200 former staffers, relatives and local Republicans.)
Among the crowd in Sidney sat Dave Heywood, a 66-year-old who had “retired from pretty much everything.” He and one of his friends told me that despite the stickers, they weren’t necessarily Pence supporters. But they had received them from one of Pence’s “gals” — referencing either a volunteer or a paid staffer — and in the tradition of Midwestern politeness they stuck them to their shirts.
Heywood told me he had met Pence no fewer than eight times in recent months. “A hell of a nice guy,” he told me — though he said he was “really a Trump guy...

It’s difficult to find a political prognosticator who is not on his payroll who gives Pence any plausible shot at winning the nomination, a reality he acknowledged on the trail earlier this month. “The media has already decided how all this is going to end,” he told just 13 people at a Pizza Ranch in Red Oak. “But as you all know, I think Iowa has a unique opportunity to give our party, give our country a fresh start.” He encouraged them to “keep an open mind.”

Those folks are just there for the pizza 🍕!
What could he do? Well how about not going Joseph Stolen’s inauguration and sucking up to Biden and that vile wife of his. Going to Trump’s farewell speech might have been nice considering Trump made him Vice President.
Both Sidney and Red Oak are the two county seats in that area of the state. Both still have their original victorian-era courthouse buildings. The one in Red Oak is a STUNNING piece of late-1800s architecture.
Anyway, that area of the state is VERY pro-Trump. Lots of veterans and pro-second ammendment types there. You are just as likely to see the Stars-and-Bars flying as Old Glory. In Shenandoah, IA (about half way between Sydney and Red Oak), you’ll see lots of houses with both flags flying along with “Trump Won” and “FJB”.
Area is poor, white, blue-collar. Houses are cheap, but pay is comparatively low compared to elsewhere in the state.
The photos are hilarious. I never liked the guy from day one, and when he stabbed Trump in the back liked him even less.
Just think how popular this guy would be if he had backed Trump and be the VP today. He would then stand some chance of being prez in 2024. Instead this coward chose the spineless route to favor the Uniparty and will soon be thrown out with the dishwater. He gets to live out the rest of his life in disgrace.
And in Iowa, the PRANCH is a pretty big draw!
What it looks like when a candidate is married to 10% of the crowd at his event.
Interesting. Pence. Pizza.

No no no. Pizza Ranch,In my opinion, it is the best smorgasbord in the upper midwest. It’s clean, the food is good, and they even have hot toll house cookies.
This would be like saying one could only get 15 people to see the super bowl.
He had a chance to affirm the Constitution. He had a chance to be a hero for this age...
He folded.
F*ck him.
I have a great idea! Let's burn the food!
The RNC will choose the nominee. It’s too soon to say who they will pick, but Pence is one of their top three, for sure.
The bastard gave us Biden.
When was he ever a favorite of the right?
When I went to Iowa there was a lot of good food at the Pizza Ranch I visited.
As for Mike Pence...Yawn
Was Pence popular on the right? Who picked him for veep and why?
Never a favorite of the right.
He is one of those who doesn’t know when to quit, with an ego as big as a barn door.
Pence is a putz. World class.
