San Francisco's mayor has ordered city departments including police and public health to propose budget cuts of $206 million by next week in a desperate attempt to reverse the stricken city's 'doom loop' spiral into economic collapse.
Law enforcement budgets in the city, which is ravaged by homelessness, drugs and a downtown business exodus, face cuts of $27.6 million, while the public health department could lose a further $25.9 million, according to a DailyMail.com analysis.
The fire department must propose reductions of around $10.5 million to meet the mayor's demand, while city's crumbling Municipal Transport Agency must find savings of $15.5 million, a review of official figures suggests.
In a letter dated October 11, Mayor London Breed ordered departments to propose massive cuts to this year's budgets in order to prevent San Francisco reaching a $500 million deficit by 2025.
The radical cuts mark an embarrassing change of tack from Breed, who is now forced to tear up the record-breaking $14.6 billion annual budget she signed off just three months ago. Department heads across the city have until Thursday, October 26 to propose their cuts.

Nothing wrong with San Francisco that a good earthquake and fire couldn’t fix.
“ But it would be worthwhile in the long run.”
You are wishing for the deaths of millions of Americans?
Double down on stupid always helps!
When the smoke clears, I think this is merely the ‘bump’ for 2023. Once you get to summer of 2024, there’s bound to be another cut, and another for summer 2025. They just aren’t admitting the long-term strategy here.
The comical side of this, going back to 1980s SF...you had one of the dozen cities in the world that attracted international tourists. Everyone wanted to spend a week in SF. The city thrived on tourism and money poured in to the revenue pot, and had a fair number of locals employed. All of these incompetent city council members and mayors just goofed-off and saw no incentive to keep the ‘machine’ running.
That said, it's strange to see the opposite - a City like San Francisco dying a slow death from the sicko rape of progressives ideas.
That’s called “urban renewal”
HAHAHAHAHA!
I shouldn’t laugh.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Should work out well.
Idiots...reap what you sow. I ain’t bailing you out.
Breed needs to get a new tee shirt.......Flopola woman.
Have you San Franciscans thought about asking the Demented One for a couple pallets of Bennies? Just tell him it’s to buy Christmas presents for the illegal aliens.
Wake me up when SF is ready to rein in public sector pensions.
They must have been sold out of ‘ghetto trash’ t-shirts.
Is there any doubt that she would win?
To fix any problem you must first understand what the problem is. Currently the administration has not figured out the reason for the decline of their city.
I will give them a hint. What you reward, you will get more of. What you punish you will get less of.
The city rewards the bum, prostitutes, the druggies and the insane.
The city punishes the average law biding citizen with rules, regulations and high taxes, and not providing the services a citizen should expect from a city government.
As someone else posted, enforce the existing laws and follow the rules one at any National Park “do not feed the animals” because they will become depended on the handouts,
“The real problem is drug addicts who are homeless and/or mentally ill making the place unsafe for decent people. But let’s cut police protection instead.”
No...the real problem is Democrat rule over San Francisco.
The last Republican Mayor of San Francisco was George Christopher...1956 - 64.
It’s been 60 years of uninterrupted Democrat rule and policies.
lol........that’s a dam shame......just when Breed needs one.
Yeah, that’s the answer.
Liberals...
"AMEN" to that!
THOSE OF US WHO “LIVE OUT IN THE DESERT” DO NOT DESERVE THAT PUNISHMENT.
NOT OF OUR MAKING.
OTOH-—IT WOULD BE EASIER TO S S S & BACKHOE THEM.
