House Republicans voted down Jim Jordan, a member from Ohio, as a candidate for the House Speaker position. The secret ballot concluded with 112 votes against Jordan and 86 in his favor.
This ballot was cast after the House of Representatives lacked a Speaker for over two weeks, following a motion by Matt Gaetz to vacate the chair. Kevin McCarthy had also been removed from the position earlier in the month by a 216-210 vote.
The eight Republicans that voted against McCarthy included Biggs, Buck, Burchett, Crane, Gaetz, Good, Mace, and Rosendale.
After the recent ballot, Kevin McCarthy voiced his support for Tom Emmer (MN) for the position of House Speaker. Emmer subsequently announced to the House Republican Conference his intention to seek nomination for the role.

It doesn’t take a genius to ask why MAGA Republicans ditched McCarthy without first securing the votes for a replacement who would be an improvement.

Why would hern get 217 and not Jordan?...I think you don’t understand that at least 1/3 of gop congress people or RINO’s basically uni-party people.
I think Hern is some what conservative but may be more palatable to moderates than Jordan. Moderates are always the majority of the GOP Congress which is why historically we always have a RINO Speaker. Its imperative not to end up with Emmer. Been may be the compromise. We’ll see.
