You are correct: there are many Christians in the Gaza Strip, and estimates vary from 3,000 and up.
HAMAS is just barely more interested in killing Jews, burying Israel, exterminating the line of David and all historical records pertaining.
That jihadi intensity, waxes and wanes; except, since 2014, that waxes. There are many more terrorists, supplies, missiles, etc., than estimated (until now) by interested parties - IMHO.
Where people take shelter in the church, and thereabouts, and the same for hospitals, there, Israel will have to go in on the ground and dig out HAMAS. If reducing HAMAS is the objective.
Otherwise, Israel will lose support.
IMHO, if Israel has a ground game to tackle HAMAS targets, then Israel had better go to it . . . with an expectation of handling many 10’s of thousands of civilians.
Israel cannot avoid a very large humanitarian mission that is part of rooting out HAMAS.

According to Israel, they were targeting a nearby Hamas rocket and mortar command post. If so, the damage to the church complex and fatalities and other injuries to the civilians there wasn’t a war crime, but collateral damage.
But I can't help noticing where the church was, smack dab in the middle of the area Israel has been warning ALL CIVILIANS to LEAVE (North Gaza) for over a week now.
Sadly, they probably have been prevented from doing so by Hamas, which has setup roadblocks and shot and blown up cars trying to flee South.
According to aljazeera news, there are c1,000 Christians remaining in Gaza [the other 2,000,000+ are muslim].
According to the Palestinian authorities [Hamas] this is the second time the church has been bombed and destroyed by Israel in the last 10 days. The first report has already been debunked as fake news/propaganda. The second report is already being moderated: it now wasn’t a “bomb” that hit the church “compound” [not the church itself] but a missile.
Hamas have history when it comes to errant missiles hitting hospital compounds and such?
Time will tell.
Christians are always ready to sacrifice their own life for the gospel. Or at least we should be. That doesn’t mean we walk into a war, but that doesn’t mean we run and hide either. Jesus hid Himself many times because it was not time. Reading these accounts is weird, like He could disappear in a crowd.
When it was time for Him to give up His life, He prayed like I have never and He went.
All Christians wrestle with this, as did Paul.. to live is Christ to die is gain.
If these Christians wanted to stay in Gaza, it was their choice. Hiding in a church is reasonable, to die there with other brothers and sisters sounds great. I could see where the rest of the family is angry snd vengeful, because they won’t understand until they are truly serving Jesus as Lord.
Sorry Amash, but your relatives had been told over a week ago to get out of the area. Israel gave warning, they didnt start the war but humanely gave warning in hopes civilians would be wise enough to leave for safety. God will judge who obediently followed His plan for each of them, and who just did as they themself choose.
According to a Greek news article I read, the number of Christians in Gaza has declined from over 7,000 in 2007 when Hamas took over to less than 1,000 today.

They don’t care. It’s a combination of racism and idolatry for the state of Israel. Palestinians aren’t real Christians to them because they somehow are blocking the way to the second coming.
Gaza is a war zone. The best course for any innocent bystanders is get out any way they can.
Hamas needs to be put on trial, isn’t churches off limits to bombing according to the Geneva Convention?

since when have Christians been exempt or protected from the effects of war? Quite the opposite has been the case, in fact. What makes “this” different “this” time?
Why do you seem to think that ‘these Christians’ should be special enough to not have to deal with the disastrous effects of war, despite the fact that they have apparently chosen to be right in the big fat thick & middle of the most heated (due to hatred of the Jews) and ongoing war on planet earth?
