Gaetz says those voting against Jordan are trying to punish 8 conservatives who voted to remove McCarthy

lorida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz told reporters on Friday that he and other conservatives who voted to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have offered to face removal from the House Republican conference.

"If what people need is to see the 8 of us wrapped on the knuckles in order to get on to the business of governing" than we are open to consequences, Gaetz said, which includes removal from the conference.

Gaetz said he and the other conservatives would stay Republicans.

Gaetz and Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., argued that the Republican holdouts voting against Jordan are doing so to punish the group of conservatives that voted to ouster McCarthy.

So Gaetz has taken a less than perfect situation and made it something that could be a disaster for all of us: Hakeem Jeffries, 3rd in line to the Presidency.

Don't blame Gaetz for the actions of the 25 RINOs who are unwilling to vote for Jordan. They are the problem.

I thought McCarthy released the J6 tapes to Carlson, just before Fox fired Carlson.

McCarthy promised to release the tapes so everyone could see them. He never did that.

Letting one Fox employee see parts of the tapes is not "releasing the tapes".

Defense attorneys for people locked up in jail need those tapes, not Tucker Carlson so he and Fox can make money.

Hey Rep. Gaetz, it's not that I'm necessarily mad at you for getting McCarthy booted. I'm mad at you for being so colossally incompetent that you didn't have a suitable replacement locked down before removing McCarthy.

Nonsense.

You can’t whip 218 votes AGAINST a sitting speaker while that speaker is in power. It's an impossible thing to do. The plan was to vacate McCarthy, put the conference in the the standard position to vote for a speaker and then whip up the vote and try to win behind some other suitable candidate who doesn't want to spend our country into oblivion.

Gaetz did all he that should and could.

The letter that directed the GOP conference to vote for Jim Jordan, signed by the eight members who sided with 100% of the Democrats to overthrow the Speaker of the House.

No wonder the GOP majority will not elect Jordan for Speaker.

Guess I did not consider that. Yup, you're correct.

If that's your understanding of it, I can't help you further.

He has a 54 or so conservative rating. Jordan is 94. Thoughts?

What?
43% approval. The rest of congress is at 17%

What is wrong with people? Gaetz is hot at that rating.

The only thing keeping gaetz from being the most popular congressman is his potentially wimping out. Trump sticks with his arguments. Let’s see gaetz do it

At 43% rating he’s hot

The rest of congress:

“The most recent polling data from September 2023 puts the approval rating of the United States Congress at 17 percent“

Form another Republican Conference with the 8. Then start picking off all that you can get from the current one and see which one ends up with a majority.

What is the conservative rating of the average voter/Republican voter? Are they out of step with that? I do know that on abortion pretty much ALL of the Republican Conference is out of step with three quarters of Republicans on the question of exceptions. I do know that Jordan has a 97% with the Taxpayers Union vs Scalise’s 82%, which seems a bit more realistic than your 40% differential.
