Who do you think is going to cave first? The 22 holdouts or the Gaetz coalition? Will it be the side that believes a government shutdown should be avoided at all costs? Or the side that wants the House to start using its leverage to get things done? Hmmmm, that’s a tough one.

>> I’m sorry, but his grandstanding is going to end up getting a leftist Dem, Hakeem Jeffries, as Speaker of the House and third in line to the presidency.

And I’m sorry, but I don’t believe your prophecy.

No kidding. We have a few conservatives that actually fight back and state facts yet the rubber spine “GOP” players nit pick them to death which give the dims actual control as a minority.

I’m not the one posting accusations against people of the conservative party who actually make an attempt to represent us.

I said the same the other day and as told I was naive. Doesn’t mean we are wrong however.

What about the 25 Republicans who voted today against Jim Jorden - aren’t they also guilty of voting with 100% of Democrats?

According to your logic, no Republican should ever oppose another Republican on anything, lest they be guilty of siding with the Democrats.

I hope you can see the fallacy in your reasoning.

As I told the last RNC fundraiser caller, it needs to get worse before it will get better.

I at least respect the D’s for standing together. Our side just defeat ourselves.

Thats fine and dandy, but there aren’t enough Conservatives to form a ruling coalition. We’re almost in a Parliamentary situation here.

Half the people on this forum are getting weak kneed over a standoff for the House speakership. Imagine what their reaction would have been when the colonies declared independence. How far we’ve fallen

True. True. When the crap hits the fan, remember there will be Benedict Arnolds wearing our uniform.

That is the $33,629,187,105,622.79 (as of Oct 18th) question.

I know who I WANT to win (Gaetz & Co).

This will be the biggest test of this in our history.

The Jordan haters MUST be primaried.

IMHO, though, right now, it’s advantage Jordan & Co. It’s too far away from Nov 2024 to hurt them politically, and if we shut down (ie, the standoff continues), we win.

If Jordan succeeds, we win.

We only lose if Jordan withdraws, and we end up electing some RINO as Speaker.

Members of Congress, with few if any exceptions, have a top priority in common. It is, of course, reelection. They must therefore please majorities within their districts. A majority of US Congressional districts are dominated by factions that could not care less about deficit spending. That is the underlying factor in the current dog and pony show in the House.

Times are far too good at present for serious action to curb borrowing and spending. Now if there were to be a shortage of currency grade paper and ink, we might expect immediate attention from the "People's House".

“They must therefore please majorities within their districts.”

That’s now how it works. They must appease their major bribers, their money men, their contributors, their sugar daddies. Money buys votes, so who cares what the people want.

Are there enough rinos to form a majority party without its conservative base? Because rinos sure govern as if their bade doesn’t matter.

You apparently want to lose 30 seats and hand over the House to the Dems. Gaetz is a lightweight back bencher, who had no plan after he vacated McCarthy.
