Contrary to popular rhetoric, Europe is outpacing the United States in aid to Ukraine. The Kiel Institute, which closely tracks contributions, estimates total European commitments from member states and institutions as of July 2023 to be over $145 billion, nearly double the United States’ total bilateral commitment of almost $77 billion. This does not take into account any recent announcements, such as those made in the run-up to the October 11 Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, with Germany just announcing a new aid package worth $1.1 billion.

It’s the lesser evil.
Seriously, what do you think the US defense budget would need to be if the US goes isolationist? You think the hell that would break out in the rest of the world won’t wreck us?
You God Damn naive fools.
Ukraine is Europe’s Palestinians.

Yes, we know you’re in the “ALL FOREIGN ENTANGLEMENTS ARE GOOD” crowd. And we know that you believe that those who oppose our UKRAINE INVOLVEMENT must be complete worldwide isolationists (we’re not and I suspect you know that). And we know that you’re a committed member of the “LET’S SPEND OTHER-PEOPLE’S-MONEY” crowd and the “MASSIVE NATIONAL INDEBTEDNESS IS GOOD” crowd.
There are indeed “naive fools” in our midst but they are not those who question whether we have strategic national interests in Ukraine.
This thread and its comments are most interesting.
So much is asserted but with competing "sources" no agreement can be had, and therefore this thread quite reminds of the neocons trying to prop up waning support, as Israel-Hamas sucks the media spotlight from the neocon projects.
I was curious about the current German Marshall Fund. Its DC office seems rather deluxe in the DuPont Circle. It sits on a great deal of cash, as one reads from its financial. $6,343,025 cash and cash equivalents of a total of $189,319,298, and the salaries and benefits for its staff are deluxe.
Consider: https://www.gmfus.org/sites/default/files/2023-09/The%20German%20Marshall%20Fund%20of%20the%20United%20States_22%20FS_Final.pdf
Given that the entity is now essentially a adjunct to the media with its "news" and "op-ed" articles, it seems apt for today's "support the grift," because it is become a part of the grift worldwide.
One also observes that its original mission has enjoyed a big time "mission creep" from a GERMAN to a European base, with "GMF is headquartered in Washington, DC, with offices in Berlin, Brussels, Ankara, Belgrade, Bucharest, Paris, and Warsaw."
It is a "think tank," and thinks with a leadership cadre of generally Democrat-leaning individuals, venture capital types and, oh yeah, the New York Times. Which of course is "bi-partisan."

Fine, the US isn’t Europe and we owe them nothing.
Came across this last month, neglected to note the source (DailyMail?).
The US taxpayer is the world’s piggy bank.
I'm totally surprised.
This article is just you bragging about how much money Europe is giving Ukraine. I didn't mention Israel at all,
Ukraine is NOT a US ally by any constitutionally valid Treaty, and NATO trying to turn it into a member is one of the main reasons that Russia felt the need to invade.

…..
So there were Ukrainians there that you didn’t get along with?
“Wow, you believe that Ukraine will be paying back lend-lease funds? “
>>>>>>>>>
I don’t need to “believe”. I simply know.
Ukraine is one of the richest countries in Europe when it comes natural resources.
Ukraine is an immensely rich country having large reserves of minerals like uranium and titanium. As Europe’s top producer of uranium and with vast deposits of titanium, Ukraine ranks high in the world for its key resources. Why do you think Russia wants to take Ukraine at ANY cost, huh? Russia wants to become rich!!
Ukraine could pay us back with Uranium (for example) which America badly needs.
Commitments....
Agree. IMO, the chances of Ukraine paying any of what’s been given to them, or committed, is Zero.
America's future is already embalmed by not fencing off our southern border and BIDEN allowing unchecked 'migrant' entry. The USA/Mexico Border is nothing but some lines on a damned map.
The worst case scenario long term is if Europe arms to the teeth. VERY bad history.
One can argue that it was near genius to set up NATO the way it was / mostly still is, or maybe it was just a bit of historical circumstance and luck. But then I take a longer view than most, both forward and back.
