he House Speaker race continues after Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA.) withdrew and Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA.) emerged to challenge Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH.). Henrietta Treyz, Veda Partners Managing Partner and Director of Economic Policy Research, belives it will be difficult for Jordan to rally sufficient bipartisan support to secure the House Speakership.
With the Speaker race unsettled, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) is tasked with overseeing the vote as Speaker Pro Tempore. However, pressing global issues are arising, from Israel-Hamas tensions to Ukraine aid, requiring legislative action. Given the uncertainty around the Speaker vote, Treyz suggests current Pro Tempore McHenry becoming Speaker may be the "path of least resistance."

The only thing that matters is if they will respect the will of the majority of the Republican caucus. If a majority wants a bill on the floor to be voted on, onto the floor it goes. If the majority of the Republican caucus wants to kill a bill, it should be killed forthwith.
It really is that simple.
The radical left of teh GOP is holding the nation hostage.
These 20+ RINOs are the very same ones taking potshots at the 8 Republicans that ousted McRino 2 weeks ago. They were so critical of the 8, but what they are now doing is far worse to the country and to the party itself.
Hey, I have an idea, just leave it vacant until the Dems take back the House in 24.
The Dems got their herd leftist under Pelosi. Where were these 20 moderates complaining about that?

And she’s the “expert” on this question? Pffft.
Okay, then I’m an “expert” and I believe Jordan will rally sufficient support to secure the Speakership. So there.
Part of why I have to decide if I am now in Purgatory or in Hell.
Everything drifts toward going the Left’s way 99% of the time.
“The radical left of teh GOP is holding the nation hostage.”
They were unwittingly doing the party a favor.
Jordan has already announced he would put a bill on the floor which bundled Israel and Ukraine aid, when well over half the Republican caucus is opposed to further Ukraine funding.
He has already shown a lack of fidelity to the supreme imperative.
Well, it’s on Yahoo Finance so it must be true.
Those 20 voters are living proof that RINO is a very accurate word for them....
I can live with that…eff em.
and if we can hold out until November we don't have to pass another CR and we can shut down the government, another win.
There are no moderate Democrats anymore. The last good one was Zell Miller. They are either Liberals, Socialists, Marxists or actual Communists.
That is what they want.
Speakers get big money from special interest donors to be loyal to the people who made the donations.

Of course! Why, the very NAME “Yahoo!” reeks of gravitas. ROFL!
“Hey, I have an idea, just leave it vacant until the Dems take back the House in 24.”
I think you have a very good well reasoned idea there... It is one of those cases where less of a bad thing is a good thing.
They are showing that there really is no urgency here to elect a Speaker of the House.
Keep holding votes, that is what they need to do.
Beat them at their own game for a change, do not cave. Just keep voting over & over again. That is how you defeat these people who have been there too long and will do anything to retain their power.
Israel is already on auto-pay, and interest in funding Ukraine has dropped significantly.
