Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Oh.) fell short of the 217 votes needed to succeed ousted Kevin McCarthy as the next Speaker of the House, on the first ballot Tuesday — making a second ballot necessary.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY.) bested Jordan, drawing 212 votes to Jordan’s 200. There were 20 votes for other candidates.
The night before Tuesday’s vote, several Republican lawmakers emerged from a House GOP conference meeting saying that they won’t vote for Jordan, 59.
Jordan, however, came out of the meeting confident that he will be elected speaker of the House on Tuesday — despite at least six GOP lawmakers still opposed to his nomination and others undecided.

“As always, the Democrats are in lock-step.”
Leftists are always good at marching together.
Generally, they goosestep.
Hey Ingtar the WOT show did you wrong
Anybody ask Getz what the plan is? He put this in motion so now what?
The 20 who voted against Jordan are:
Accept things as they are, not as we would pretend them to be.
(Via Politico) – The Ohio Republican failed to get the 217 votes he needed to clinch the gavel during Tuesday’s first ballot, with 20 GOP votes against him. The House recessed immediately after the vote concluded, and it’s unclear when a second ballot will occur.
Some lawmakers aren’t optimistic it will happen anytime soon, with Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) saying confidently to reporters as he exited the floor: “Have a good evening everyone.”
The pause will allow Jordan to meet with some of the 20 Republican holdouts to try and bring them into his camp before voting again. Recessing before continuing on to a second ballot will allow sorely divided Republicans to regroup in private away from the House floor and potentially consider their strategy.
Many Jordan allies had predicted it could take multiple ballots, but it’s unclear if they’ll be able to flip enough holdouts in subsequent votes. (read more)
It is absolutely critical that we know who will align against President Trump in 2024. This list of 20 House “Republicans” should serve as a generally good outline to remember.
Gaetz should be primaried. He is responsible for this mess and he has no solution. He’s making the Republicans look like the gang that couldn’t shoot straight just as we’re facing incredible threats from abroad and within. Dp you think independents and sober, intelligent people will want to vote for these idiots?
This will doom Republican chances in 2024. Watch Jeffries muster enough votes to win and the Democrats take over. What jackasses Republicans are. Stupid is as stupid does.
Ken Buck (CO), fake tea party candidate.
Which Kelly in Pennsylvania?
Getting paid by Chicoms does.
Don Bacon is all lovey dovey with them.
This country is running on vapors and the enemies are licking their chops, won’t be long folks, better make your peace
Primary all 20. Not another vote, EVER!
This is a catastrophic mess. Jordan is seen as a Trump stooge. Gaetz likewise. Gaetz engineered this and now what do we have? Total chaos. And what’s the way out? Get somebody else as the nominee.
I suggest Byron Donalds. He’s a principled, well-spoken, intelligent conservative. He’s from Florida. He’s been investigating Biden and doing an excellent job of it. And, finally, although this isn’t the deciding factor, he’s Black. See the Democrats or idiot RINOs try to go up against him.
I knew Jordan couldn’t do it. He’s too incendiary to gather the support he needs. Dump him and do it soon, Republicans.
They’ll have to do something asap. I could easily see some of these liberal Republicans doing a party switch and getting some plum committee assignments in exchange from the Dims.
Open Season on RINOS. Primary the bums!!!!
_____________
You surely meant these RINO’s who voted with Dems to oust speaker McCarthy?!
“I called Simpson’s office before the vote and requested that he vote for Jordan. It apparently fell on deaf ears. Fine. I’ll remind him publicly when he runs for his seat next time. RINO squish.”
I sent email to him but have called his office before and he is about as squishy as Romney. He is a major RINO enjoying the fruits of the office but giving nothing back! I also live in Idaho lots of rinos here.
We’re in the midst of seeing the last gasps of the uni-party. It won’t be pretty and won’t be resolved any earlier than the 2024 election. We have a painful couple of years (at least) ahead of us. Batten the hatches and prepare for chaos ahead. It would be nice if it could be avoided but the opposition has led us too far down the rabbit hole to get out without trauma. Keep the faith. It’s our only choice. The political climate we think we see now will be totally different in a year— for better or worse. Nevertheless, the truth will still be the truth.
Republicans match classic definition of cannibalism.
Democrats never eat their own.
I got to give it to DUmmies. Not a single post attacking any democrat. FR posters delight in attacking so called RINO’s.
Just because a RINO does something right once in a blue moon doesn’t forgive the simple fact they are still RINOS!!!!
We need Patriots not RINOS!!!!!
Huh? When was there any enforcement by the House? Once Pelosi said, “One day elections won't matter.” That was around 2010.
>>Watch Jeffries muster enough votes to win and the Democrats take over.
So, no change from how things were under McCarthy then.
You are sadly mistaken. The country has already made a hard left turn and the Rick solid unity of democrats has won the war. Get ready for 4 years of Biden. Democrats have mastered the tools to win elections. Now we are all on our own. Look out for yourself. DOJ/FBI will not save you from more millions of illegals flooding in. Is there any doubt there are terrorists, disease carrying and welfare dependent 25 million coming during 8 years of Biden regime?
