I suspect Egypt has a reason for not opening the gate. I read they would open it if some basic supplies could be shipped to the people of Gaza - food, medicine and water. That may be it.

Yes, there is a reason. Egypt already has about a million people living in a cemetery in Cairo, The City of the Dead. Then there are the Christians who collect and sort through the garbage every night before they burn it. Their life expectancy is half of others in Egypt. Where is Egypt going to put the Palastinians? I doubt they would ever collect garbage to earn their keep.

President Sisi told them he doesn’t want Hamas infiltrating Egypt from Gaza. Not long ago, the Moslem Brotherhood took over Egypt and he rectified that danger. He, King Abdullah, and other more moderate Moslem leaders are at risk of civil war and rebellion should they side with the US and Israel against other Moslems; the U.S. alone they can side with militarily, with limits, as was evident in the Gulf Wars and war against ISIS, just don’t expect much public help here; quiet diplomacy and overwhelming military power will suffice.
