LSU professor resigns after GOP candidate wins Louisiana governor race

A professor at Louisiana State University has resigned after he claimed the newly-elected Republican governor of the state already asked the university to fire him.

Robert Mann, who is the chair of Journalism at the Manship School of Mass Communication at the university, has spent his career serving in press roles for regional Democrat politicians.

He took to his X account on Sunday to announce that he had told the dean he would step down from his position at the end of the school year.

“The person who will be governor in January has already asked LSU to fire me. And I have no confidence the leadership of this university would protect the Manship School against a governor’s efforts to punish me and other faculty members,” he said.

“I’ve seen too much cowardice and appeasement from top LSU officials already. That being the case, it’s clearly best to remove myself from the equation to avoid any harm to the school I love.”

Mr Mann is referring to Jeff Landry, 52, who was elected on Saturday as Louisiana’s new governor.

The outlet spoke with Mr Mann on Sunday who allegedly described himself as “the biggest irritant on my campus” to conservative officials like Mr Landry.

“I’m proud of that; I’ve tried to be that,” he told The Daily Beast. “I’ve done it because I have tenure because I’m protected under the First Amendment. But this is not going to be a governor who I think has any respect for that. That’s what’s changed.”

It’s NOT enough to simply fire them. These scumbags need to be hounded to the ends of the earth. Lizard Cheney and Kinzinger come to mind.

These Bolsheviks need punishment. The ultimate punishment. /spit

Considering he’s 65, I suspect his real reason for leaving was to retire anyway. Now he can collect some leftist sympathy by blaming his departure on the newly elected governor.

Looking at that picture, my first thought: What’s the over/under on the number of male undergraduates he’s sexually harassed?

I sense something fishy.

Cherchez la femme, pardieu! cherchez la femme!
I would bet dollars to donuts there are a slew of sexual harassment actions or financial "irregularities" pending against him, and there was absolutely 0 probability (actually a negative probability) that the incoming governor was going to fire him. He's getting outta Dodge before they build the gallows, and trying to make himself appear in the best light for future employers.

Total crap.

This tenured protected Drama Queen knows how to play the press. Mann had every intention of retiring but just wanted to make a grand gesture and get his name in the news by slapping down the new Republican Governor with a false premise.

The Drama Queen version of pulling the fire alarm by the stage door exit.

You left out the best part!

"In December 2021, Mr Mann tweeted that Mr Landry, who was attorney general for Lousiana at the time, had allegedly sent some “flunkie” to an LSU Faculty Senate meeting to read a letter “attacking COVID vaccines.” In response to this, Mr Landry tweeted that Mr Mann had attacked the woman, who turned out to be the Assistant Attorney General, by calling her a “flunkie.”

He then followed up to say he spoke to the president of Louisana State University, William Tate and expected accountability for his actions and hoped the university would take “appropriate action.”

“This type of disrespect and dishonesty has no place in our society - especially at our flagship university by a professor,” Mr Landry said."

I doubt that Governor-elect Landry had any intention of firing Mr. Mann. Rather, I believe the professor was the furthest thing from the new governor’s mind.

I think it’s nothing more than Mann drawing attention to himself. He’s 65, making him eligible for Medicare. He most likely has a good pension, and was already thinking about retiring shortly. Staging his retirement at this time gives him the opportunity to make a martyr of himself and allow him to become a full time Democrat mouthpiece. I expect that he will soon be on CNN and MSNBC ranting about what a terrible person the new governor is.

Retiring and resigning are pretty different. I doubt he's eligible for too many retirement benefits, if he's resigning his position. Especially if the guesses here are good and he's trying to dodge some criminal stuff getting exposed.

...You've done it because you were protected and knew there'd be no consequences to your actions. But now that you think those protections might not work, it's an immediate tuck tail and run. Even though the punishment you think you'll get is... more beneficial to you... than the running away you're doing. (Assuming the rumors of illegal activities are just rumors, and not the real reason he's quitting.)
