Will the Republicans ever be able to get their act together ? Doesn’t look like it.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
No, because it has no governing core ideology, hence there’s no attempt to seek the compliance of its members or its candidates to one.

You said (essentially) it's not bad if Congress does nothing

I countered with, "It ain't good"

How does your reply offer a workable solution to the initial problem that we have no Speaker and Congress is tied up at the dock ?

We have to have a Speaker because the democrats are STILL in lock step to destroy our America and the personal Liberty and Freedom allowed to us via lawful exclusion from legislating us into dormancy ?

No, we DO need a Speaker and My choice is Jordan, but any reasonable Republican is better than the most dynamic Democrat . . . . unless of course YOU'RE a democrat.

I’m so tired of this dumpster fire. It’s Rinos v/s Trumpists & both are more interested in defeating each other than the insane, communist opposition party Democrats. We are going to end up with a Democrat speaker with solid control of 2 branches of the federal government. You think this is accomplishing anything other than that? Yall will be the first folks to complain when the new Democrat Speaker passes nationwide voting legislation, amnesty for illegals, publicly funded abortion & gun registry. For God sakes, did ANYONE have a plan before they started this. Kamikaze government is g oing to land us in a worse spot. FGS, if you are turning me off (& I’m more right wing than everyone here put together), how do you think the undecideds are going to receive it. Both sides of the current right have become insufferable. Congratulations- the Democrats will win the day! I’m so f+cking tired of this 🫣🙄

It’s over anyway. The debt is barreling to $40 Trillion, which will push the annual debt service to twice the defense budget. Neither party has a clue. Atlas Shrugged is a primer for the decline of America. For me, it’s Jordan or nothing, and nothing is a fine alternative.

Therefore, it is unreliable

19 Republicans voted with the Democrats to allow Drag Queen and Pride events on military bases including schools.

Whay do you think it's "unreliable"? 20 is probably close to the number that will vote for Jeffries or will vote "present".

Either way, Hakeem Jeffries is the next Speaker.

Exactly!

The ONLY human on earth with the balls, knowledge of the players and experience to step into the speakership and STOP the Omnibus theft is Donald Trump.

Well, actually...

70% of the budget had been passed by the House in separate appropriations bills by the week that first the CR with the 30% cuts and then the CR with the 8% cuts were defeated. 3 more appropriations bills were passed that week. My Rep. felt that the additional 30 days was sufficient to complete the process with the separate bills. So, I have to question why the 30 day CR with the 8% cuts was voted down by Gaetz and Co., which then precipitated the whole mess. McCarthy’s judgement was that a shutdown was politically disastrous*, which then got us the 45 day CR @ current spending levels — not great, but at least it would have allowed for completion of the process with separate Appropriations bills. “Would have”, but Gaetz responded with the Speakership vacation using collusion with ALL the Dems. And here we are.

*I don’t have to like McCarthy because that’s irrelevant on this point: Over the years I’ve talked to a lot of moderates — they do make up a large chunk of the population — and never have any been favorable toward shutdowns.

A second point that I’ve yet to see addressed on FR is that purple districts tend to produce either Dems who campaign as moderates and then vote however the House Dem leadership tells them to vote, or “purple” Pubbie Reps. Moderate or Rhino reps. in solid Red districts who vote moderate can be criticized, sure, but Moderate or Rhino reps. in purple districts who vote contrary to their district are not going to be around for long. (This happens to Dems who vote too liberal too.) FReepers can scream bloody murder at Newt all they like for pointing out that 18 Pubbie held seats are in districts that went for Biden in 2020, and quite a few Pubbie seats are in purple or very tight districts, but all the inane comments in the world don’t change that political reality.

Seriously, do FReepers expect Pubbie Reps in purple districts to consistently vote against their constituents expectations?

Other than coming up with more persuasive candidates (at least a credible illusion that the GOP can govern without chaos, helps), this problem can only be solved at the voter level. How many FReepers can admit this?

What a good post. That history of the appropriations bills passed thus far is how M. Levin recounted the events leading up to McCarthy’s ouster.

You’ll find few that will make that admission.

Many are caught up in election fraud is a reason that Republicans (especially Conservatives) don’t do better.

Some believe the answer is the “less is more” strategy. That path scuttles Reagan’s big tent philosophy and believes the way to victory is to have a party that encourages moderates and more independent types to “get the hell out”. I call it the Kari Lake strategy. That idiot was telling voters to get out of her campaign rally days before the election if they had been McCain supporters.

If Jordan cannot win SOTH, there does not seem to be any viable path to a Republican SOTH.

There are liberal Republicans to be sure. However, this article comes from CNN with the usual anonymous sources. Anything they say has to be considered disinformation.
