Republican Jeff Landry won a landslide election on Saturday to flip the Louisiana governor’s mansion red in one of three main gubernatorial elections this year, shocking political observers with a victory that saves him the trouble of having to face a Democrat in a November runoff.
Landry defeated Democrat Shawn Wilson and the rest of the field in Louisiana’s gubernatorial election, winning about 52 percent of the vote. In Louisiana, governor elections are first open to a full field of all candidates from either party in what is known as a jungle primary—and then the two top vote-getters generally advance to a runoff a month later. But if a candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, as Landry did here, they can win outright on jungle primary day.
Many were expecting Landry, the clear and convincing frontrunner who has been the Attorney General of Louisiana for many years after a stint in Congress, to easily advance to the runoff and face Wilson in November. But his overwhelmingly strong performance on Saturday put him above majority support as the Associated Press called the race with him easily north of the 50 percent mark, meaning Landry will be the next governor of Louisiana.

Do you think calling other Republicans names is productive? It’s why our Party is falling apart.
We did it to ourselves. The AZ GOP told people to vote on election day and that was a HUGE MISTAKE. Everyone admits it now and the strategy is different going forward. We have to do what the DEMS do which is CHASE BALLOTS. Make sure those ballots are DELIVERED. Either by mail, drop off or early voting facilities. We cannot wait til election day. We had enough votes to Beat the Cheat. We did. We left thousands and thousands of votes on the table. We are smarter this time. We are going to win, Trump is going to win and we will take back the Senate seat. The only way we lose is it we keep diving ourselves and calling each other names to the point people just don’t want to vote for anyone. The average Republican voter does not like what is going on in the Party here.
I live in Louisiana and I don’t remember the Democrat candidate bringing up the abortion issue in their ads.
[Did you look at how many other candidates were running? The Alt Left ran like 10 other candidates to split the Conservative vote and still lost badly]
[We had enough votes to Beat the Cheat.]
There were 2 other republicans in the race that took about 10%. I wonder if they were real republicans or rinos trying make Landry lose?
Good follow-up article here:
From the article:
““You got to look – the lack of enthusiasm of black voters, and the fact that Landry got a higher than expected percentage of the black vote, he got a minimum of 12%, that’s unprecedented in Louisiana for a Republican,” Dooley, a native of Washington Parish, Louisiana explained”
and
““Trump excites the base. He brings in voters that don’t normally vote in a lot of elections; he brings in those types of voters,” she said. “And this is something that’s interesting: not one of the polls that were taken in Louisiana before the elections, Saturday, showed Landry winning without a runoff. Not one poll showed that. Not one pollster showed that, and the fact that he won without a runoff and the polls were way off, I strongly believe that the polling data for the presidential election are off as well, because they’re not surveying these voters… A lot of the Trump voters are not being polled or surveyed because they’re not likely primary voters, and I think the polling data is way off on the national level in Trump’s favor.””
