Not really. Iran has a huge influence over millions of Iraqi Shia and has militia loyal to them in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, South Yemen and the P.A. They also have a much better relationship with Saudi Arabia now too.
It’s a very different ball game than in the 1980s.
