BREAKING: Republican Steve Scalise has ended his bid to become House speaker after failing to secure the votes to win the gavel
I hear he has a pretty darn good voting record as well.
.
Nah, this way nothing gets passed.
“””Nah, this way nothing gets passed.”””
I believe you are correct. Politicians like to blame someone else when they are caught doing something or nothing.
In this case the RINO’s will blame the 8 who ousted McCarthy for not getting anything done.
“Doesn’t appear possible for anyone to get the votes without support from Democrats.”
Bingo. In 3 or 4 weeks, 20 GOP centrists will reach out to Jeffries and set up some power-sharing arrangement. No Biden investigations and yes Ukraine aid.
“Trump is under indictment .
He does not qualify.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yes I agree. Trump is under indictment. But presumed innocent until proven guilty.
AS such I believe he could candidate for the seat.
The thing is, even though he has weaknesses, he is possibly the only one at the moment who could get sufficient support among the Republicans in the House (wether they like him or not). Trump could act like a of “trump-card”, calming down the heat among Republicans in the House. However, Trump as a hypothetical Speaker of the House, could only last a few months. He has other things to do - a presidential campaign to run.
But at least it would buy Republicans some time to FINALLY settle for a more durable Speaker of the House.
What even happens, the mess we are now doing in the House makes us look like children.
There was an internal vote the other day which selected Scalise. That vote should have been RESPECTED. But we have lost the sense of gentleman-ship apparently and some Republicans in the House decided to trash the voting result!
Very unfortunate.
Now McCarthy is jumping back in?
Or will it be The Donald?
Or will Jim Jordon seize the day?
Stay tuned as democracy proceeds in due course.
The critics of GOP as lacking leadership is a laugh, coming from the tyrannical Dem caucus in COngress. This is the way a real process of democracy looks. And I find it highly inspiring. I also enjoy watching the slushfunder , money dioaling RINOs squirming as they lose power , whining about not getting their district ( extended family)money fixes from the Biden administration.
womp womp
“AND...MaCarthay is the winner...watch and learn.”
Yep, and he will be empowered.
Honestly, we should just leave the temp in there. I like him so far.
Good! The Establishment’s preferred RINO successor has been stopped. Jordan is the only one who has the support of everyone.
You would gotten Ukraine aid with Scalise.
He has voted yes on all Ukraine aid requests.
Why should the vote have been respected?
Scalise is a go along to get along moderate.
The worst possible candidate for SOH.
Between his Presidential campaign and his current legal problems, don’t you think that he’s got enough to deal with already?
I would go for Chip Roy.
You would have but didn’t.
In the coalition I foresee Ukraine aid will be part of the deal.
Like it matters. The republican’t party has been a cluster-**** for the past three decades, at least.
You’re right. It’d be murder holding an important vote if he had a court hearing that week.
“Leading candidates are now:
Jim Jordan
Lee Zeldin
Kevin Hern
Mark Green”
Lee Zeldin is a moderate and currently not a member of the house (I know he doesn’t have to be a member) but I would be happy with any of the above.
Bitching and moaning about your party on social media is a cathartic need. But seriously guys,, when do you folks in the rank and file get active to take your party back from Uni Party Rinos? If I saw even a glimmer of advancement on this front I’d change my registration in a heartbeat and get involved to help.
The current status quo only serves Rinos and the Uni Party.
Whatever you think of the GOP for the past 30 years, at least when they had a majority they worked together as the party in power.
If they can’t come up with a compromise speaker then I predict two things: (1) moderate swing-district reps will approach Jeffries to form a power-sharing arrangement, (2) the Dems will ride a tidal wave in 2023.
And I’d rate the probability for a compromise a long shot.
