Scalise Blocked, Expected to Step Aside

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise will not secure the 217 votes needed to become the chamber’s speaker, according to sources.

The House conference has been delaying bringing the nomination to the floor for a full vote, as several members tell me Scalise cannot win.

“There are as many as 20 members opposing Scalise,” one source said, noting almost all are “Jordan and McCarthy supporters,” referring to Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who lost to Scalise on a secret ballot for nomination to replace ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

Publicly, Jordan is supporting Scalise, but privately he has told others he will enter the race as soon as Scalise withdraws.

House GOP Study Committee Chairman Kevin Hern, R.-Okla., and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R.-Minn., are also discussing plans to enter the speaker's race after Scalise exits. Both are also preparing to challenge Jordan.

Jordan lost the vote to Scalise among House Republicans Tuesday, 113-99.

Jordan then pushed for a motion that the House GOP's nominee must win 217 votes before the matter is brought to the floor. That motion was rejected by the conference.

Hern appears to be the sleeper candidate. He’s solidly conservative, supports former President Donald Trump, and is liked by moderates who won’t back Jordan.

Emmer, meanwhile, is a moderate opposed by Trump, which likely would doom his bid for the leadership position.

He looks pretty good. Solid conservative.

Contacted all of the house members to discuss speaker run.

Doesn’t have all the personal type baggage that the others have.

Very convincing when I saw a recent interview.

The Democrats easily maintain party discipline because that party is filled with losers who would be unemployable if they don’t do what they’re told.

Republicans are much more likely to be independent thinkers who are hard to push around because they could easily walk away from politics and do something else for a living.

“I’m getting nervous. If Republicans can’t agree on a candidate we might end up with Hakeem Jeffries”

This WILL NOT?CAN NOT HAPPEN.

Not ONE Republican will vote for a Demonrat for speaker. It would be political suicide, certainly NOT TEN!

Absolutely, taking a bullett is pretty serious and he almost didnt make it, he should be the most conservative person there and he has something to shove down the scum democrats throats that oppose anything. He never got one apology, nothing from the other side. His motto should be until you take a bullett, shut up.

It could be that by November, McCarthy will be back in the running. He has the support of 200 RINOs. So he’ll just have to force the Freedom Caucus to elect him.

I’m sorry. I just remembered you complaining how you couldn’t keep a job. Asked us as a group to pray for you. Your marriage ended which is why you ended up back at your parents home. You even called yourself a loser. I’d never say that about you….

You are sad. We lost a seat in Alabama for 2024. New York reorganized their districts. New Mexico was able to keep their rigged map causing us to lose a seat next year. South Carolina might result in another seat or two loss if Supreme Court doesn’t vote on our side. You think I’m delusional when you don’t have the facts. You think that we’re going to win by 30 seats like you stupidly said in 2022. Now whose the delusional idiot?

It’s instructive to see the difference in world views: Republicans are reluctant to put forward a solid conservative, being queasy about how their opponents, the left, would react, but Democrats have no compunction about pushing the most radical leftist they have into top leadership. Their world view has, indeed, become the standard in this wicked nation.

It’s amazing. The RINOs have trained people to believe that the public really gives a damn about a shut down.

While we are LENDING (lend-lease) to Ukraine we are securing that the strategically highly important Ukraine remains under US sphere. If we do not, Russia will take it and use it against OUR interests. Ukraine will be paying back to America. Just like the UK did. The UK paid back its massive WW2 lend-lease and issues its last payment to America in 2006.

So what's your title in the CIA?

Reagan didn’t dig his heels in on wasteful spending.

He used to complain about those massive 2 foot high spending bills that hit his desk a few hours before the shut down would happen, but sign them anyway.

I agree with your sentiment, but the effect of greed, and personal ambition, and bribery can muddy up those decisions to the point of overwhelming the winnowing process.

Government by the people? But sir, the people are stupid, more often than not.

A caucus isn’t effective if it’s a symposium of thinkers.

Dissent is fine on substance but the failure to get behind a speaker (who they don’t necessarily have to follow lockstep) is a surrender to anarchy.
