I am a proponent of charter schools with a caveat. Charter schools are not the end all be all of education. Parents must exercise due diligence in choosing a charter school for their children. CS’s run the gamut from good to bad and anything in between. That and the bottom line is the parents have the ultimate responsibility in a child’s education and not the schools.
You’re right. A couple of our kids were in the local charter school, whose principal attended our church. For the most part, there’s a lot to like about the school.
But over the past year or two, it feels like it’s been overrun by transvestites. Judging from prom photos, half of the kids attending the school are now LGBTQ. And one of the teachers, a biology teacher, is a man who identifies as a woman.
We have gone back to homeschooling.
And given the choice, most of them will do so. Many already do, making great sacrifices to accomplish it. But poorer families just do not have the means.
Public schools have, IMO, forfeited any "mandate" they might have with their abysmal performance in turning out and educated populous and SHOULD lose the funding that will go to vouchers.
