Beyond what's spoken of in the op-ed: Nagorno-Karabakh (and the Republic of Artsakh in particular) was, in the eyes of the world, recognized as part of Azerbaijan, even though some countries (Russia in particular) had intervened throughout the years to try and maintain a ceasefire.
Naturally, when Azerbaijan blockaded the sole road (the Lachin corridor) connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world, this would mean that Azerbaijan was blockading and launching military options on its own territory against its own people...which would be highly inconvenient, given prior rationale utilized justifying the case for intervention in Libya and Yugoslavia. But there were proverbial crickets when Azerbaijan essentially gave the ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh a choice between exile or death (because Russia, as far as I'm aware, had no official diplomatic recognition of sovereignty regarding Artsakh; they do with Armenia, and since Artsakh was de jure part of Azerbaijan (even though it was de facto majority Armenian), there was no cause for Russia to invoke any of its obligations under the CSTO to come to Artsakh's defense, especially if Armenia proper wasn't going to do anything about it).
So now we live in a world where over 100,000 ethnic Armenians have fled Nagorno-Karabakh to avoid the threat of genocide at the hands of Azerbaijan. Strange, how this doesn't get much air time or sympathy from Western media.

That Israel has provided weapons to Azerbaijan for years isn't a conspiracy theory, but a publicly known fact, as this 2019 article shows.

Haven’t you been following? In the last 10 years, Russia has been shifting more to the Azerbaijani side. Remember, Azerbaijan has the helpful oil pipeline the Russians need. Their support for Armenia is not strong. But Armenia has no where else to go.

They certainly are an ally, to be sure; however, is it beyond the pale to suggest that sometimes their interests and America’s are not aligned?

As I recall, the last Armenian genocide happened 30 years BEFORE the tiny nation of Israel was created.
I need to read a lot more information on this subject before I believe that Israel is actively helping a Muslim country murder Armenian Christians.

If Armenia and Azerbaijan both joined NATO and the EU, there would be free movement of goods, capital and people among those two countries and Turkey, etc. Old ethnic tensions would slowly pass away. We would have peace, prosperity and mutual defense.
Have you been to Europe? Crossing a border there is like crossing a state border in the U.S. Still, each nation of Europe has control of its language and culture (though of course there are tensions). And, each has its own Olympic team and other aspects of national identity.
You Azeris serve as a homeland for a population much larger than within your borders. The same is true for Armenia. The challenge of the 21st Century is preserving our national identities while taking advantage of the emerging global economy and society. It sounds impossible. But, I believe we can find a way and even make a way where we have to.
