DUBAI—Iranian security officials helped plan Hamas’s Saturday surprise attack on Israel and gave the green light for the assault at a meeting in Beirut last Monday, according to senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, another Iran-backed militant group.
Officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had worked with Hamas since August to devise the air, land and sea incursions—the most significant breach of Israel’s borders since the 1973 Yom Kippur War—those people said.
Details of the operation were refined during several meetings in Beirut attended by IRGC officers and representatives of four Iran-backed militant groups, including Hamas, which holds power in Gaza, and Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group and political faction in Lebanon, they said.
U.S. officials say they haven’t seen evidence of Tehran’s involvement.

A European official and an adviser to the Syrian government, however, gave the same account of Iran’s involvement in the lead-up to the attack as the senior Hamas and Hezbollah members.

The IRGC’s broader plan is to create a multi-front threat that can strangle Israel from all sides—Hezbollah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in the north and Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank, according to the senior Hamas and Hezbollah members and an Iranian official.

Hamas has publicly acknowledged receiving support from Iran. And on Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi talked to Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ziyad al-Nakhalah and Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.

Well, when we give Iran $billions, it should be apparent that we don’t care about their nuke development.
Bomb them
President Retard can’t stop you
Clean out the scum including Iran
No. Their "judgement" is not the issue. Free Republic has become so inundated with paid propagandists on both sides that it is losing its utility. You can't talk about any topic here without the propagandists flooding the threads with contorted logic about how Russia or Ukraine are the ultimate cause/villain behind it all.
A pox on all of their houses. May they both lose.
We need to step out of the way and let Israel take care of its Hamas problem, the old fashion way...
Looks like it. Hamas probably used runners to coordinate meetings. So electronic surveillance is impossible. Hamas leaders probably flew to Iran for training. So it may be difficult for the IDF to track all of this if Hamas knows how to cover their tracks in their communications.
Get ready for blowback. It won’t be pretty.
Fill up those gas tanks
Nary a peep today from our fearless leader FJB. He was hosting a BBQ on the WH lawn today.
He financed this attack. He’s celebrating now.
Well said, in my opinion.
Oil futures up 4% at this hour.
Some points that seem pretty important to a average guy like me.
1) Iran planned this
2) Iran has attacked tankers in the Persian Gulf before
3) This won’t be over quickly, hostages being held in underground tunnels
4) We are moving military assets over there
5) This attack was very savage and brutal, it won’t go unpunished
What I find most disturbing is that Israel was caught utterly flat-footed with this attack. Tonight reports indicate that Israel’s Iron Dome interceptors are depleted.
Is it possible that someone in the group of 8 was encouraged to make the move on the Speaker at just this time to weaken the ability of our Congress to act quickly and effectively? Russia working with Iran comes to mind in terms of long range planning.
