For two months, the media have been promoting the notion of an ongoing Covid "surge" or Covid "wave." The data doesn't support that claim. There was indeed a slight rise in cases during that time, but that rise peaked at about 24,000 new cases (per day) three weeks ago and has been tapering off to about 19,000 a day.
Similarly, there was a slight rise in deaths, but this peaked at around 120 a day and has now dropped to 90-110 a day, about two per state.
Both of these figures are about what we were seeing in mid-Spring, and are both far below earlier peaks.
