California teachers union pushing for homeless access to school parking lots amid looming strike

The Fresno school district says it does not plan to meet the union's demands

Kassy Dillon October 5, 2023

A teachers union in California is pushing for the Fresno Unified School District to allow homeless families to park their cars in high school lots amid a looming strike.

The demand is included in the Fresno Teachers Association's "last, best, and final" contract offer to the superintendent. The document also asks for the district to allocate $500,000 for security in the lots.

"We do not plan to open our parking lots as FTA is demanding," Fresno Unified School District chief communications officer Nikki Henry told Fox News, adding that the district has experts in "education, not housing."

. . .

Henry said the district offers services to foster homeless youth through Project ACCESS, which provides academic and emotional support and financial assistance.

Fresno Teachers Association President Manuel Bonilla told Fox News the idea to open parking lots to homeless families was included in a list of "potential examples" for helping unhoused students to discuss with the district. He added that it isn't "a major sticking point" and hasn't been discussed at the bargaining table.

. . .

The teachers union's proposal to open parking lots, first reported by The Washington Free Beacon, was in the "Social/Emotional Supports & Safety" section. Other demands to help students in need include allocating $1 million for clothes and school supplies; $1.75 million for creating a food pantry with hygiene products; $20 million for addressing student homelessness; $1 million for free laundry services; $1 million for free yoga; and meditation and low-impact exercise.

There’s a good idea: Put drug addicts and people who often have mental problems on our childrens’ playgrounds. What genius thought this up?

Is the school district going to happily pay out when their students get raped by homeless men?

Why stop there? Let them set up their tents inside schools so they can have access to showers.

I don’t see how the rank & file in a place like California, where everyone relies on a car, would be okay with giving up parking spaces, that they’d never get back. If anything, they’d slowly lose more of them.

Came here to post that. Liberals truly are mentally disturbed.

How about we put these homeless in YOUR backyard? Surely you won’t mind, and you can show the world how compassionate you are. Yet one more concrete example how liberals are so generous with other people’s money and other people’s children, but ship them to Martha’s Vinyard or NYC and suddenly it’s a massive crisis.

Good point. But what the rank & file want doesn’t matter.

I spent decades as an (involuntary) member of a teachers’ union. Union elections were a joke. The organization was run more like a hereditary kingdom. As one president retired, he handed things off to his chosen successor.

All sorts of tricks were played to make sure that chosen successor stayed in power. I could tell you stories that would make Stalin blush.

Fresno Teachers Association President Manuel Bonilla..."open parking lots to homeless families was included in a list of 'potential examples' for helping unhoused students to discuss with the district."

These leftist progs are utterly insane. How can people like Bonilla and other insane progs not see what this would do? Nobody would be safe at the schools and there would be NO WAY to dislodge the bums once you let them onto school property. Then, they would quickly take up camp in the classrooms, urinate and defecate everywhere, destroy the school buildings, steal and smash all the equipment. In a few months the district would have to close the school.

This has been played out all over the country where bums enter vacant buildings. It's almost like people like Bonilla WANT to destroy the country.

"Welcome back to school, little girl. Would you like some candy? Would you like to see my little puppy?"

Take that million and use it to sterilize the “homeless”.

After a few years there won’t be any “homeless” children.

Apparently there's not enough human feces and needles on school property already.

When Pelosi was asked about the rising crime rate in SF, she said it’s only a problem is a certain part of the city. The spin machine came out almost immediately.

I am beginning to think these “homeless camps” are where Obama hides his secret army of thugs and vote gathers.
Throw drugs at them and they will do anything.
Spread COVID, stuff ballet boxes, intimidate Americans....
The fact the Left is going out of their way to keep anyone from looking closely at them seems to indicate something is going on.
