Jordan, Scalise Speaker's Fight Goes Back to Boehner-Era Clashes (interesting read)
RedState ^ | 10/6/23 | Neil W. McCabe

This shuffle came about after Jordan, along with Rep. Mark Meadows (R.-N.C.), forced Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) to resign, by filing a vacate the chair motion on the last day before the August 2014 recess.

Boehner did resign right away, and it did not seem like Jordan and Meadows would succeed until House Republicans came back to Washington--having heard in their districts a growing frustration with the speaker.

In a fateful meeting, Jordan, Meadows and Boehner agreed to let Boehner, a Catholic, hang on to his speakership until after the visit of Pope Francis to Washington. Boehner resigned the next day.

Interestingly, Boehner had engineered Jordan’s departure as the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, then a conservative bloc inside the House Republican Conference, in 2013.

Boehner did it by encouraging moderate House Republican freshmen to join the RSC by exploiting the rule that allows new members to join without a review of their voting record. Boehner told the freshmen that joining the RSC, founded in 1973 by Paul Weyrich, would protect them from primary challenges from the right.

Jordan became the RSC chairman after the Tea Party wave in 2010, and throughout the 2011-2013 congressional session, Jordan used the RSC to make trouble for Boehner's program of working with President Barack Obama.

In the next congressional session, 2013-2015, Boehner had enough and he lobbied the moderates inside the RSC to force Jordan out--and Jordan was replaced by Boehner’s pick: Scalise.

So Boehner is now retired and drunk, and Jordan will likely be Speaker.

Scalise, a good guy, needs to step aside on this one. For unity. Jordan should take this by unanimous consent and then the house GOP had better get things done, and NOW.

Jordan for SOTH is by far the best choice!

Any holdouts who still remain to condemning Gaetz, either doesn’t understand the plan to replace McCarthy with a Conservative Jordan, or are attempting to discredit the plan because they fear the weakening of the moderate establishment hold on power.

Yes. I barely remember these battles. Because there have been so many. But Boehner installed all his minions as committee chairs as a line of moderate Republican succession. I call them the Boehner Boys. McCarthy and Scalise are among them. Most of them are gone now. A ton of them retired en masse in 2018 to assist the Democrats in retaking the House.

This is who they are (just to throw in their ‘that’s not who we are’ catchphrase back in their faces.

The current state of the GOP is proof that the “diversity is our strength” rubbish is nothing but a friggin’ lie. You don’t see any “diversity” in the RAT party. They all march in lockstep with one another.

Too many are assuming Jimmy the wrestler is conservative.

Was hoping the article would dig a deeper and give a little more context to boehner becoming speaker. That is, the Boehner, Blunt, Shaddegg race for Speaker which Boehner won, unfortunately.

Scalise is McCarthy 2.0 and the most terrible candidate for speaker.

"and then the house GOP had better get things done"

I am honestly curious what policies you would like to see the House take up with Jordan as Speaker that would not have been done by the previous Speaker.

Jordan’s tenure in Congress has already proven more effective than any accomplishments by McCarthy. But then again, YOU’RE not a fan of conservative victories!
