Seems Gaetz made a gig splash in the swamp and the swamp critters don’t like the fresh air it put into the muck.

DC really is an ecosystem all it’s own. Hannity, Levin, Newt, Luntz, McCarthy, every congress critter. No matter which side they’re supposed to be on, they all rely on one another. Removing one species of swamp critter upsets the balance.

Mark Levin was always at his best when he was “F. Lee Levin” — a nickname given to him by Rush Limbaugh. He was an expert on constitutional law who would weigh in periodically on radio shows about legal matters in the news at any given time.

The problem is that this only covers about 20-30 minutes of material on the air in a typical week. Once he tried to parlay that into regular daily radio and TV shows, he went completely off the rails because he ended up spending most of his time operating as a cheap political huckster instead of a serious expert.

Yep, they’re extremely delicate if there’s an imbalance in DC. I agree 👍

Yea! She’s turned into a big disappointment. What a shame! I was looking forward to her coming back and being his press secretary again.

...and I'm not so sure about Mace.

But also amongst the media and even FR the ones hollering the loudest are the most suspect.

Business as usual ie corruption is now quite exposed for what it is and it is massive and we are screwed exactly to that proportion to the point of hopelessness.

Diane Feinsteins estate being in the hundreds of millions is an obscenity and that is but a tiny example of the parasites draining their host unto death.

I see no path to correct this but ripping the bandaid off as harshly as possible.

what if Jordan was the replacement plan all along, even before the trigger was pulled?

I’ve said this all along. Just because Gaetz didn’t publicize his plan, doesn’t mean there wasn’t one.

In order garner the weak-kneed Rs support, Jordan needed to appear to support McCarthy until the office was free and clear for him to run.

The weak-kneed, GOPe needs to wake up that we are tired of the ‘go along to get along’ way of governing. We want action, toughness, and a stop to all the spending. I hope Jordan is a good start.

Haven’t listened to Levin since he was an avid Never Trumper in 2015.

It was easier back then because we had Rush to listen to for some sanity. I’ll bet Rush would love what Gaetz and Co. did!

……. the elites are aghast that one of their own has been taken out

They were like this when Bratt beat Eric Cantor. So fun!

Completely on board with that.

Meanwhile America has hit an iceberg and sinking fast. I hope there’s time.

Possibly, because it makes the Republicans look disunited. However, my understanding may be more along the lines of achieving legislative victories that could set the course for the next 50 years. Gaetz might have used his bargainging chip to get somebstuff done.

“Possibly, because it makes the Republicans look disunited.”

Thanks. I’m unable to form an opinion on the McCarthy ousting except that his likely replacement, Jim Jordan, is a conservative livewire. McCarty appears to me to be more of a compromiser and less forceful than Jordan.

Levin is a very well respected conservative, but he doesn’t walk on water. I have some serious problems with his stance on a few issues. He loves to equate conservatism/republicanism with a hatred of everything southern. When he starts that crap that “Democrats are all slavers” and Lincoln saved the world, I turn him OFF.

It's good that the GOP is trying. I think removing McCarthy was the way to go. But historically one house of congress has not been able to shut down the govt for long. And too many voters are gullible.

Its all part of the big reveal. The public has to recognize that the people talking out of both sides of their mouths are also detrimental to our system. These guys are also in effect uniparty.

The modern conservative movement was born after the fall of Joseph McCarthy, when a group of conservative intellectuals led by William Buckley wanted to set up an intelligent alternative to the Democratic liberal Republican consensus of the day. However, it became, especially after the defeat of Goldwater in 1964, a gatekeeper of the right wing. Not unlike a secular Pope, Buckley excommunicated the Old Right isolationists in the Robert Taft mold, the John Birch Society, and Ayn Rand and her Objectivist supporters. On the other hand, Buckley and his staff writers welcomed the former liberals disillusioned with the leftward lurch of the Democrats. This group became known as neoconservatives or neocons.

Especially after the neoconservatives became a force in the conservative movement, there was a culling of cultural conservatives or paleoconservatives from conservative institutions. The first blow was the replacement of Mel Bradford with Bill Bennett for the National Endowment for the Arts early in the Reagan Administration. Other secular excommunications were later imposed on Pat Buchanan, Samuel Francis, and Joseph Sobran.

As the mainstream media had been liberal dominated since the 1940s, and monolithicly so after 1960, talk radio became the go to alternative for the conservative masses. Rush Limbaugh, who really did have talent on loan from God, built up an audience that rivaled the reach of Dan Rather or Peter Jennings. He spurred a number of conservative talkers, some of whom, like Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and Glenn Beck, remain on radio today. Conservative talk radio played a major role in the rise of Newt Gingrich and the election of George W. Bush. Along with veteran conservative stalwarts like Phyllis Schafly, some progress was made on the cultural front, with numerous states banning homosexual "marriage". Conservative talkers also generated the first major criticism of the mainstream news narrative on issues like the Waco massacre and the mysterious deaths of Bill Clinton's enemies.

Rush Limbaugh became to the beginning of this century what William Buckley had been in the 1960-90 period: the gatekeeper of " respectable" conservatism. Limbaugh railed against "keepers of obscure facts" and denounced John Birchers and other marginal factions. AM talk radio along with conservative think tanks like Americans for Prosperity, Hillsdale College, much of the GOP, and by now decades old print media like National Review became known as Conservatism, Inc., guarding the right side of the Overton Window of acceptable opinion. Conservatism, Inc. blunted the Tea Party movement and helped suppress attempts by Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul to overcome the mainstream conservative narrative.

The libertarian, paleoconservative, and conspiracist dissent never disappeared but were marginalized in small publications like The American Conservative or in early websites like Lewrockwell.com. However, the events of the 1990s and early 21st Century brought a gradual but radical change that would ultimately dislodge Conservatism, Inc.
