Because voters want Big Government. The Bigger, The Better. Folks like us are the minority. And even those who do talk about cutting spending scream like banshees when they come for their pet programs.
No doubt, and Trump is just making it horribly worse, because all he cares about is getting elected.
It’s not that the ‘voters’ want big government. It is that the voters Congressmen listen to are leeches. This is because it is far easier to buy votes with largess than to actually keep the promises they made to get and stay elected.
