Newt was not a good one. His compact with America was a good effort but Newt was always “buds” with the left. He was so impressed with himself that instead of fighting for America he postured and embraced all sides in an effort to be a “great man” rising above the fray, seeing the big picture.
In all these years he has never been a dependable ally. He certainly took many opportunities to backstab Trump. Excellent mind, incisive wit but not a person to have your back in the trenches.
Fair enough, if not Newt you have to go back to the 30s or something to find another GOP speaker. So basically what we’re saying is that there hasn’t been a good one in living memory.
Luckily, he was not in office when the pledged his fealty to Nancy Pelosi.
