Now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was stripped of his gavel on Tuesday afternoon via roll-call vote on Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) motion to vacate the chair, pursuant to rules agreed to by McCarthy in order to clinch victory in his drawn-out race to become speaker in January.

By a vote of 216 to 210, the historic motion prevailed as presiding Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) declared "the resolution is adopted...the office of Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant."

The Republicans joining Gaetz in his motion to vacate were Reps. Biggs (AZ), Buck (CO), Burchett (TN), Crane (AZ), Good (VA), Mace (SC), Rosendale (MT

Well wait a minute

I read a few thousand posting here about McCarthy being a Democrat plant and in the pocket of Biden and the Democrats.

So if he was doing everything Democrats wanted, why would they not have 4 of their dark dark blue district congresscritters vote for him and save their tool for future use? After all that way the GOP gets all the blame while the Dems get all the political goodies.

The public say that until giving up their favorite socialist goodie becomes an issue. They want “socialism lite” to work. It doesn’t, it just crashes slower then socialism major. Reagan didn’t do much to roll it back. He nibbled at the edges a little more then most. Congress wouldn’t have let him even if he tried harder.

“Let this sink into the Swamp for a few hours, particularly those at the RNC who think they can fund only Never Trumpers.

Let these political prostitutes who care about their “political careers” and will walk around with wetted fingers held aloft. Let them feel this new direction of the wind.

You will NOT advance legislation over the majority wishes of your own party. Do that and YOU ARE OUT. These Swamp creatures will learn that lesson. Government upheaval? So what? A calmly smoothly functioning government generates $33T in debt. There is no downside to upheaval.

Never said better. Thank you!

Found the other thread I referenced a few posts ago to you:

"part of a rule change after 9/11 to support the continuity of government, the speaker is required to deliver to the House clerk an ordered list of members who can act as speaker pro tempore in the event of a vacancy. The person at the top of McCarthy's list will serve as interim speaker..."

We have an interim speaker until a new one is elected.

Yep. Even die-hard Conservatives scream like banshees when their pet program is on the chopping block.

Tough day for Speaker Kevin.

At least he has Frank Luntz to go home to for comfort…

So there’s that.

Paul Ryan lost speakership, because Republicans lost a majority, then he didn't run again. Interestingly, he intimated that the Dems cheated in the midterm election.

"Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question." - Donald Trump

Personally, I would never vote for him, but Trump likes him.

I’m watching Bannon at the moment. He said that Mace voted to vacate because McCarthy personally lied to her several times.

That still doesn’t register with me in terms of the CR. It’s as if Mace has some principles, one of which is no tolerance for lies, but she doesn’t have any principles when it come to $2 Trillion budget deficits.

Is this a serious question? If the Democrats were trying to oust their speaker, wouldn’t you want all the Republicans trying to help them? Disarray on the other side is always a good thing.

All due respect, Suck it. Someone such as YOU describe woulda been considered moderate in the mid 80’s.
It’s what’s needed today.
Far past time to have a radical hard right nut!!!!!

That not how it works. Once a new Congress elects a Speaker, business continue under a Speaker Pro Tem until the Congress elects a new Speaker. So for now the acting Speaker is Patrrick Mchenry from NC.

It up to the new guy what happens next

The Leftist media gives no notice to Gaetz and instead insist that Trump is behind every victory.

Someone was behind it, who knows a lot about how the House works. I don't know who that was.
