Look, people, all he had to do was tell his own caucus the truth.
THAT MEANS NOT BRING BILLS TO THE FLOOR OPPOSED BY A MAJORITY OF HIS OWN CAUCUS.
It’s not complicated. That’s all he had to do. He is going to bring Ukraine funding to the floor and it is opposed by a majority of his own caucus.
Does this mean he can’t govern? Nobody sent him there to govern. He was sent there to represent his voters, and then when he sought to be Speaker, he was sent to that office to represent the majority of his caucus.
If he had done that and only that, this would not be happening.
Very well said.
Far more eloquent and concise than I could have done.
Re: 9 - McCarthy brought to the Floor a bill that would have cut spending about 8%. 21 Republicans and almost all Democrats defeated that.
+1
Although he has not brought any bill to the floor that didn’t have the support of nearly the entire republican caucus.
And if he does end up bringing such a bill, it will be AFTER they vote to remove him, and only if the democrats decide not to go along with Matt Gaetz on this vote.
The “Speaker Recall” is in fact a bill that has been grought to the floor by Matt Gaetz and a few other republcians, that has almost NO support from his caucus, and can only win if it is supported by virtually ALL the democrats.
It is a funny way to object to the fear of someone introducing a bill that isn’t supported by your majority — introducing a bill that is opposed by almost all of your majority.
