Looking at demographics, “whites” won’t be replaced - it’s just that their children will marry with others and the largest group will be “mixed”.
During the heyday of Eastern and Southern European immigration (1895 to 1921), a lot of Eastern Europeans were not considered "white" even though they looked white. The Slovene immigrant Louis Adamic wrote a lot about immigration--he tells of a man with a Polish surname who couldn't get a job as a high school teacher, but when he changed his name to "Sullivan" he got hired right away. A lot of immigrants changed their names to fit in more easily.
Maybe. I guess that's what happened with earlier waves of immigration. But the political climate is different now. You get points for identifying as a "minority," so if it matters, many "mixed: people may still identify as non-whites.
On that (you get points for identifying as a minority) we agree. So perhaps it would be good for “whites” to break up into “white Anglo-Saxons/Germanics”, “white Latin Europeans”, “white Slavs” etc. etc. - that way everyone gets to be a minority :)
I know someone with a French surname whose ancestry is half French Canadian and half Lebanese. His wife is half Swedish and half Japanese. Only in America?
