Trump Campaign Leaves Actual Birdcage at Nikki Haley’s Hotel Door as Part of ‘Birdbrain’ Attack

Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign early Sunday left a birdcage and bird food in front of GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Haley’s hotel room door in Des Moines in reference to his new nickname for her, “Birdbrain,” per a photo shared with The Messenger.

The Trump campaign shared the photo early Sunday with The Messenger and later posted the picture on Twitter.

Trump debuted the moniker prior to Wednesday’s debate on his social media platform Truth Social. It's unclear why he came up with that nickname in particular.

"MAGA, or I, will never go for Birdbrain Nikki Haley," Trump wrote in the post. "Birdbrain doesn’t have the TALENT or TEMPERAMENT to do the job. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Haley had a strong performance at the debate, and Trump posted about the former U.N. ambassador afterward as well.

The anti-Trump faction of the Trump campaign? I don’t understand the conspiracy here, elevating Haley right now (at DeSantis’ and Ramaswamy’s expense) is exactly the strategy.

...And by similar incidents I mean at a similar level. The Mar-A-Lago raid, the indictments, the continuous nonsense (IMHO) that Trump required “loyalty oaths” from his staff... All these do make leaving a birdcage on the doorstep look tiny, silly, laughable—true. It’s just alien to my sense of humor. But politics can be a weird game.

Well, you do have a point. But every poll has Trump way out ahead. No one is even close. At some point, it’s time to rally around the presumptive nominee.

Right. I read that, too. He called Halley "birdbrain." That fits the Trump behaviour I know. Like you, I'm looking for either a denial or acceptance of the birdcage stunt, too. I've not seen him do anything like that before. So I'm skeptical.

If folks think it's funny, harmless, and part of the rough-and-tumble of politics for someone to call another person "birdbrain" and leave a birdcage outside of their hotel room... I don't get it, but whatever. But if someone did something like that to Trump, I think reactions to it wouldn't be as light.
